WTF Is Scissoring?

Scissoring might sound like what happens when two people pick scissors during a rock, paper, scissors game, but it is actually a sex term. You really shouldn’t be surprised about it. When I don’t know a word, I usually assume that it has something to do with sex, and most of the time I’m right. We can thank Urban Dictionary and its countless terms for that.

If you’re curious about what scissoring means from a sex perspective, I’m here to enlighten you on all of the aspects of it. Here’s the deal with scissoring and answers to some common questions about.

What exactly is it?

Scissoring is when two girls rub their vaginas (technically vulvas) together. It gets its name because the position you do it in looks like two pairs of scissors crossing each other.

How do you do it?

You could potentially do it clothed for a dry humping version, but a lot of the time both partners are naked. You both crisscross your legs around the other persons so you can get into a position where your vaginas are able to rub together.

So, is it hard to do?

Scissoring isn’t the easiest position to master. Missionary this is not. It will take a lot of adjusting, fidgeting, and communicating with your partner, but it should get easier after the first time you do it.

Are there different versions of it?

It’s difficult to say where scissoring ends and it just ends up as vagina-to-vagina touching. There are many ways you can touch vaginas, although some of them don’t have names. The bottom line is that if it feels good for you and your partner, keep doing it, and forget what it’s called.

What does it feel like?

While it depends on the position you’re in and how close you and your SO get, it usually involves a fair bit of friction. Sometimes it’s less intense and sometimes it’s more.

Can you orgasm from it?

If you and bae are able to get into a position where one (or both) of your clitorises is stimulated, there is potential. Just be aware that it will require a lot of practice and you might not be able to do it.

Do you need anything else to do it?

You really just need you and your partner, but you could potentially add different sex toys into the mix. No one is going to stop you.

Is it really worth it?

Even if you find that you and your SO cannot get into a scissoring position that allows you to orgasm, a lot of people say it’s still worth it. It has a different sensation compared to a lot of other sexual acts. Furthermore, it’s a very intimate thing that can bring you and bae even closer together.
