WTF Is Fisting?

If you’ve been searching the internet for sexy new things to try, you’ve probably come across fisting. You might not have known exactly what the deal with it was, but you probably had a good idea what it involves because of the fact that “fist” is in the name.

If you wanted to know more about it, but you didn’t want to do a Google image search for fear of the results you get, I’m here to fill you in on exactly what fisting involves. Here’s the lowdown on what fisting is and answers to other common questions about it.

So, what exactly is it?

Fisting isn’t like some obscure sex terms where you have no idea what they’re actually referring to. To put it simply, fisting is basically like fingering, except you use your entire fist instead of one or two fingers, hence the name fisting. You can do it with a vagina or butt. You could also probably do it to your mouth a la Karen’s classic quote from Mean Girls, but it’s more about the former two.

Do you just put your entire fist up there?

Nooooooo way. That will be pleasurable for no one. It doesn’t matter if you have the tiniest hands. That would probably be as bad as punching someone in the vag and that isn’t what fisting is.

How do you actually do it then?

One of the key things you need to remember when it comes to fisting is patience. This isn’t something that you’re going to want to attempt during a random quickie session. It might not sound sexy, but it’s going to require a bit of planning for it to be the best. Then it’s going to be all about going slooooooowly and communicating with bae.

Remember to lube, lube, lube.

This is one time when you do not want to skimp on lube. The more lube, the better. If you normally use a good bit of lube during P in the V sex, you’re going to want even more on hand. (Pun intended.) Remember to apply tons to your hands as well as the area that going to get fisted.

What else do I need?

A pair of gloves can also be a good idea. Some people say that they make the whole fisting experience a little easier. Plus, they create a barrier between the hand and the butt/vagina.

What does the fister do with their hands?

Before the fister gets anywhere near a vag or a bum, he/she should make sure that his/her hands are clean. (Duh.) The fister should also make sure his/her nails are trimmed short and that he/she is not wearing jewelry. Rings and long nails will definitely not add to this experience.

Relaxation is key.

If you’re the one getting fisted, you’ll probably be feeling turned on and probably a bit nervous, if it’s your first time. What you need to remember is that you need to relax. If you’re tense, things just will not work. If you thought that inserting a finger or a penis into your vag was difficult when you were stressed, imagine attempting to put a fist in your vag or butt.

If you are feeling super nervous, you might want to ask yourself if this is something that you really want or whether it’s for your partner. If you’re feeling uncomfortable about the idea of doing it, you should stop.

How do I start out?

It can be a good idea to start out with some other foreplay to get you turned on. When it comes time to trying fisting, grab your lube and apply it. Then apply more. And then apply a bit more after that. Once you’re covered in lube, you can start off with fingering and/or using sex toys. Make sure that you and bae keep on communicating and try slowly increasing the number of fingers that you’re using.

If that feels good, the fister can try making a “beak” shape with their hand and inserting that. It’s easier to put that in a vag/butt instead of a proper fist.

Just remember that if it feels painful at any time, you should stop.

What if it doesn’t fit?

Do not get upset if things aren’t working out on your first (or second, or third, or fourth…) time when you attempt fisting. TBH, it may not even work on your 23rd time. You or your partner might find that you can only get part of a first up in there, or you might not be able to go past three fingers. Don’t sweat it–it’s not for everyone, and you definitely shouldn’t feel like you have to force yourself into it if it doesn’t work for you.

Similarly, you might not be able to get a person’s entire hand in there. Instead of hoping to get down to the wrist, be happy if you make it as far as the knuckles. If it feels pretty good, who’s going to complain about that?

What does it feel like?

Fistees describe the feeling as being very intense or feeling full. It’s different than having dildos, penises, or fingers up there, but in a good way.

Can you orgasm from it?

Potentially. Note that a lot of peeps cannot orgasm through penetration alone so it usually involves clitoral stimulation while fisting.

Will you be sore afterwards?

If it’s your first time, you could experience some discomfort. That’s why it’s key that the fister goes slow and that you use all of the lube beforehand. It’s also important that fisting newbies don’t try to do too many crazy moves with their fists once they’re inside. And remember that fisters should take thing slow when removing his/her hand.
