Out of the few good things that came out of 2016 (and honestly, I can only think of about three) Stranger Things was totally up there. If you haven’t seen it, you need to watch it on Netflix ASAP. It unexpectedly became the hit of the summer and, as someone who loves weird and spooky TV shows, it became one of my favorites. If you, like me, binged Stranger Things over the summer, that means you’ve probably been looking for a show to fill the void until Stranger Things season two premieres (which will hopefully be Summer 2017). Luckily, your search for your new favorite TV show is over.
I’m not sure what it was about the Netflix original that made everyone obsessed with it, but I’m not complaining. It was both scary and hilarious, and also sweet at some points. No matter what you liked about Stranger Things, there are other shows out there that will hopefully tide you over until season two. Check out these TV shows you will love if you love Stranger Things:
WestworldI wrote about this show back over the summer, and admitted that I had high hopes for the mysterious series. Not to be dramatic, but I just finished this show last night and...I need MORE. It's quite a bit more violent than Stranger Things, but it has a similar "WTF is actually going on" vibe that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The show takes place in a theme park that is filled with "hosts" AKA robots. I don't want to spoil anything, but the robots eventually realize that they aren't actually real and it turns...messy. You can watch this show on HBO GO.
The X FilesIf you like the alien/monster aspect of Stranger Things, this is the show for you. It aired from 1993-2002, and was revived earlier this year for another season. It follows two FBI agents who investigate ~creepy~ cases that may or may not involve aliens. Spoiler: they pretty much always do. The truth is out there, guys. You need to check this show out. You can watch it on Netflix.
CharmedIf you're into all of the cool powers that Eleven has in Stranger Things, you should check out Charmed. It has monsters, three badass sisters who have magical powers, and some dramatic love storylines, if you're into that. You can stream this one on Netflix.
Twin PeaksIf you like the super spooky aspect of Stranger Things, try watching Twin Peaks. There is only two seasons, so it's not too much of a commitment, and there is a revival coming back to TV in 2017. It follows the investigation of a murder in a mysterious small town led by FBI agent Dale Cooper. I won't spoil it, but the investigation uncovers some strange stuff that happened in the town. You can watch this show on Netflix.
Buffy The Vampire SlayerI might be getting a little too monster-y here, but hear me out. Buffy and her friends live on top of what's called the "Hellmouth," which is a fancy name for the place where all the demons and vampires live, a little bit like "the upside down" in Stranger Things. Naturally, they wreak havoc on the town, and Buffy has to stop it. If you love strong AF girls who can beat up the bad guys, check this show out on Netflix.
FringeI'll admit, this show got confusing, but the first few seasons were amazing. It's another show that followed a bunch of FBI agents who would investigate weird and unexplained occurrences, which are related to a parallel universe. It will have you questioning...everything. You can watch Fringe on Amazon.
Freaks And GeeksOkay, this is a little bit of a stretch, but stay with me on this one. If you like the '80s aspect of Stranger Things, you should check out Freaks And Geeks. It has no ~scary~ themes, unless you count being a geeky teenager. If so, this show is horrifying. You can stream it on Netflix.
