I think I speak for all of us when I say we desperately NEED 2017 to be a great year. Not even great, just good. Honestly, I would even be fine with just an average year. Basically, anything that isn’t as bad as 2016 was. This year was a MESS in so many ways, and I think the only thing that made me not lose my mind was the amount of TV and movies I binged over the last year. So, if there is one thing I’m looking forward too in 2017, it’s the new TV shows and movies coming to Netflix that I will undoubtedly binge this January. We have to start the New Year off correctly, am I right?
Obviously, a lot of content gets added to Netlfix every month. But only a fraction of it is actually worth watching, IMO. Sure, I bet someone is excited that Sharknado 4 premiering on Netflix next month but I, for one, will definitely be passing on that one. BUT, there are some things premiering in January that I am pretty freakin’ excited for, and I’m sure you will be too. I can’t promise that 2017 will be great, I can’t even promise it will be good, but these eight tv shows and movies will at least make the first month of the year bearable. Check them out:
A Series Of Unfortunate EventsI, along with many other people, was hesitant about the TV show remake of the movie. I mean, could anyone really top Jim Carrey's weird, over-the-top performance in the 2004 movie? But the Netflix revival actually looks pretty good, and I'm pretty sure that's because they made the decision to turn it into a TV show. There are 13 novels, which means that they will have a ton of material for a good show. It follows a group of orphans who have to move in with the mysterious and evil Count Olaf. All episodes will be streamable on January 13th on Netflix.
It FollowsAs a huge scary movie fan, this movie...is probably the scariest movie I've ever seen. I am half excited and half terrified that this movie is coming to Netflix, since I know I will watch it ASAP and get spooked out of my mind. It's about a sexually transmitted disease that causes people to just "follow" (and kill) you. I know it sounds weird, but it is by far the scariest movie I've seen in a while. You can stream it on January 13th, which is conveniently Friday the 13th. Don't say I didn't warn you!
E.T.A ~classic~ alien film that you need to watch ASAP if you're never seen it before. It's about a boy who meets an alien who crashed in his hometown and how the two become friends. Honestly, even if you have watched it, it's time for a rewatch. This movie stands the test of time and will always be the best alien movie IMO. You can stream is starting January 1st.
Degrassi: Next Class, Season ThreeI know I speak for all of us when I say that Degrassi should literally never end, right? It's on season three of the Netflix revival, but that was after 14 seasons of Degrassi: The Next Generation. Don't even get me started on the original series that started before that. The point here is that there are a lot of episodes to watch and come January, there will be more. You NEED to watch this overly dramatic TV show that shows just how real high school can get. You can stream the new season on January 6th.
Justin Bieber: Never Say NeverOkay, before you laugh at me, hear me out. This documentary was made before Justin became a human meme, and this movie actually made me like him (a little bit). It's interesting to watch what the Biebz was like in 2011, before his whole Instagram beef with Selena Gomez and general f*ckboyness.
Bee MovieAPPARENTLY, Netflix caught wind of the Bee Movie obsession that swept the internet, and heard our cries for easier access to the movie. Honestly, this movie is weird. It tells the story of a bee and his friendship with a human. Their relationship is borderline creepy. Fear not, you can watch stream the internet's weirdest obsession starting January 1st.
The ShiningIf you want to watch a movie that will mess with your head, the classic 1980 movie The Shining will do it for you. It follow a family that moves into a hotel in the winter time and weird things start happening. A PERFECT movie to watch if you're stranded in the snow! You can stream is on January 1st.
The Parent TrapIf you want something a little less spooky, you can stream the original Parent Trap starting January 1st. Unfortunately, the Lindsey Lohan one isn't available to stream at this time, but the original story of two twins who switch places and trick their parents is just as good as the remake, if not better.
Are you going to watch any of these shows or movies in 2017? Tell us in the comments!
