11 Fun New Year’s Resolutions You’ll Actually Want To Keep

It’s that time of year again. No, I’m not talking about when we have to wear 10 layers to keep warm. I’m also not talking about the season of eating your body weight in Christmas cookies. I’m talking about it being the end of the year and the time when people are busy making their New Year’s resolutions.

I know you probably don’t want to hear about them. I don’t want to hear another person boldly announce that this will be the year that they will go to the gym every single day and eat nothing but steamed kale. Ugh. Somewhere along the way New Year’s resolutions got all boring and super serious so now no one really wants to make them anymore. What’s the deal with that?

I say it’s time that we make New Year’s resolutions fun so that we have goals that we actually want to accomplish as opposed to things we forget we promised by January 5. To help get everyone thinking on the right track, I’ve rounded up some resolutions that would actually be fun to accomplish. Take a look at 11 fun New Year’s resolutions that you will actually want to keep. Feel free to add them to your own list.

Go On A Mini Trip

I know it would be amazing if we could all have a resolution to travel around the world. Unless we all win the lottery, that is probably never going to happen. That being said, you can still go on a mini trip. It doesn't need to involve a plane. Check out another city nearby or try going camping in the country.

Make A New Friend

There's always room for one more in your squad. If you have a bunch of acquaintances, make 2017 the year that you try getting to know some of them better. You could end up with a new BFF because of it.

Do Something On Your Bucket List

We just love lists, don't we? We don't just have New Year's resolutions, we also have bucket lists. That bucket list isn't going to complete itself so why not get a start on it. Even if you do something small from it, it still counts as an accomplishment.

Embrace Every Holiday

Do you love Halloween and your birthday but find every other holiday to be super corny? Switch up that attitude and embrace all of the holidays. You can put your twist on them to make them fun. If you want to celebrate everything with cupcakes and Netflix, that sounds like a good way to do it to me. It's much better than pretending you're *too cool* for Valentine's Day et al.

Document Your Accomplishments

We document soooooooo much of our lives on social media, but sometimes we are too busy taking duck face selfies to document our accomplishments. Create a spot where you document all of the amazing things you're doing. Remember to write things that are big and small. When you look back on it, you'll feel amazing.

Get A New Haircut

Is there one hairstyle that you've been obsessing over on Instagram and Pinterest for-ev-er? Make 2017 the time you actually try it out. Bonus points if you also choose a new hair color to go along with your new cut. If you're resistant to change, remember that your hair makeover doesn't need to be crazy dramatic.

Try A New Thing Every Month

Trying something new every day is asking too much and it's waaaaay to easy to say try something new once in 2017. Trying something new every month is realistic. Have you always wanted to try painting? Is there a museum that you've been waiting to visit? Do you finally want to figure out the secrets to a fishtail braid? Make them all part of your goal, if you want.

Do Something You're Scared Of

Okay, I know this might not be something that actually sounds fun, but if you conquer a fear, it can feel pretty epic. And you don't need to go to any crazy dare devil lengths. Is there a roller coaster that you're scared of going on? Does speaking in public freak you out? Try and overcome them.

Learn The Beauty Basics

Have you been saying that you will figure out how to do your brows properly since like four years ago? Or do you curse your foundation bottle and say you will eventually learn how to use it properly? Stop with the complaining and set aside some time to become a makeup pro this year. Spoiler alert: You'll enjoy it.

Develop Your Own Signature Recipe

Think you can't cook? Make 2017 the year that you learn. You'll be thankful that you practice now before you live on your own. Plus, you can make it fun by coming up with your own signature recipe. It doesn't need to be anything complicated. It can also be something that you followed step-by-step from a cookbook. Once you master it, just think of what you can whip up next.

Buy Something You Thought You Couldn't Wear

We all have those things that we think we cannot wear because we're too this or too that. It's time to ignore those thoughts. If you find something that you love that you normally wouldn't buy, get it. You might just be surprised what happens after you wear it.
