As someone who has a borderline unhealthy obsession with makeup, I can tell you personally that the list of beauty gifts I would ask for this year could be almost endless. There are so many options out there, from luxurious brush sets I don’t even need to beautiful new palettes I also do not need to beauty brand gift sets that are useful and very aesthetically pleasing. I am sure that any beauty guru would tell you the same thing. The amount of products out there, from Sephora and Ulta alone (and that’s only two stores out of many!), can be overwhelming. What do you ask for specifically? What do you have a good chance of getting? And, if you’re trying to buy a gift for a friend or family member who loves the beauty world, how do you pick what is actually worth purchasing?
It can be tough to figure out the answers to these obviously very pressing questions. Sure, there are tons of cute holiday makeup gift sets out there, but are they good, or do they just contain four very tiny sample size products disguised in cute packaging? Yes, it’s acceptable to ask for brushes even if you already have more than enough (they don’t last forever!), but what set really works? What about beauty accessories? Something more expensive?
I’ve tried to help with some of these questions by putting together a list of some of my personal favorite holiday makeup items. From makeup products to cute accessories, there’s something here for everyone. There’s also a wide price range, from $1 to a little over $200. So, here are a few beauty gifts every girl who loves makeup needs to ask for this year:
1. A Brush Tower
Anyone who loves makeup knows that storing makeup brushes can be annoying, as they take up a lot of space. This Sigma brush tower is perfect for holding your favorites, and it even comes with a brush pad that makes washing them so much easier and faster. Honestly, someone buy this for me.
Sigma Beauty Dry’n Shape Spa Tower and Mat, $64, Urban Outfitters
2. A Compact Mirror That Doubles As A Charger
A must-have for any makeup lover is a cute compact mirror for on-the-go touchups and lipstick application. I love this one because it also has a spot for a USB cord and acts as a portable battery charger. It’s two essentials in one, and it’s perfection.
Hello Gorgeous Metallic Charging Compact, $20, Francesca’s
3. A Pretty Eye Shadow Palette
If you don’t know what to get someone, an eye shadow palette is a great option – any girl who wears makeup enjoys receiving these. Too Faced makes adorable palettes, and this gift set includes sample sizes of some of their best sellers: Melted Lipstick, Better Than Sex mascara, and a primer.
Too Faced The Chocolate Shop, $58, Sephora
4. A Luxury Brush Set
Looking for a big gift to ask for? You might want to spring for this Artis brush set if possible. These brushes are different than most other makeup brushes, and they’re pretty pricey, but they work SO well and look awesome. This set is actually a pretty great deal!
Artis The Essentials, $175, Artis
5. A Set Of Liquid Lipsticks
This is a great gift to ask for or a great one to buy someone else or even use for a Secret Santa option. Everyone loves receiving lipstick! Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are legendary, and this set includes a variety of really fun, bold colors that are definitely worth trying. Plus, although they’re miny, they’re not pathetically small.
Kat Von D Everlasting Mini Liquid Lipstick Set, $49, Sephora
6. A Fancy Lash Gift Set
I received this gift set and am totally obsessed with it. The mascara is amazing and the glitter option is so much fun. This is a really great gift to give anyone because it looks fancy without a super high price tag, and the products are truly awesome.
Marc Jacobs Beauty About Lash Night, $36, Sephora
7. A Giant Brush Set
If you can’t imagine asking for a brush set that costs almost $200, but you do need makeup brushes, ask for this one instead. There are 20 makeup brushes included, it’s at a great price point, and it will be used SO often.
AOA Essential 20-Piece Brush Set, $20, Shop Miss A
8. A Set of Little Lipsticks
Charlotte Tilbury is a luxury beauty brand that sells products that are pretty pricey – which is why this gift set is such a great deal. For less than $50, you can get three mini Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks to try out. As a fair warning, I will tell you that these lipsticks are truly VERY tiny. But they are adorable, and they work really well, and they actually last for a long time.
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Mini Lipstick Trio, $39, Nordstrom
9. A Cute Makeup Bag For The Fitness Lover
If you have a friend who either loves makeup or works out a lot or does both, this bag is a really cute little gift. Or you can ask for it for yourself! I go to the gym after work sometimes and always need to bring some beauty products with me, so I know little bags like this can be super helpful.
Gym Bag for Tiny Workouts Cosmetic Bag, $14, Francesca’s
10. A Luxe Limited Edition Makeup Set
Every year, big beauty brands put out limited edition holiday exclusives like gift sets or certain shades. There are so many to choose from out there that it’s hard to pick. I received this Kat Von D Shade and Light set and I love it. It includes all the countor and face makeup you could need, as well as two great brushes and little eye shadow palettes. It’s currently sold out, but I included it in the hopes that it will be restocked for the season!
Kat Von D Shade and Light Obsession, $200, Kat Von D Beauty
11. An Adorable Makeup Bag
If you need a makeup bag, but you don’t go to the gym, ask for something like this. How cute is it?! It makes a great stocking stuffer, or a small add-on to a gift, because it costs literally one dollar. AMAZING.
AOA Canvas Pouch, $1, Shop Miss A
12. A Lips Gift Set
Getting or giving gifts like these are always so fun. Glamglow products are not cheap, which is why it’s awesome to receive them. I love this lip kit. The PoutMud leaves lips feeling super soft and hydrated, while the scrub gets rid of winter dryness. This is all around perfection.
Glamglow Sexy Kissable Lips Set, $34, Sephora
13. A Beauty “Advent Calendar”
Okay, honestly one of my favorite beauty gifts is this play on Advent calendars, where there are little containers and different tiny beauty products in each one. I highly recommend this Laura Mercier version, which is cute enough to keep even after the holidays, and holds lots of Laura Mercier products, which are a personal favorite.
Laura Mercier The Iconics, $128, Nordstrom
14. A Self-Tanner Set
St. Tropez makes the best self-tanner in the business, and they recently partnered with Lily Pulitzer on this little limited edition collection. It comes with a super cute makeup bag and two self-tanners to use throughout the winter – safely. Get it now before it’s gone! Or, you know, ask for it.
St. Tropez x Lily Pulitzer The Ultimate Escape Kit, $48, St. Tropez
15. A Cute Makeup Inspired Clutch
You don’t have to give a makeup product to a makeup lover! Something like this lips clutch makes such a great option. It’s fun, a little quirky, and very unique.
Kiss Up Metallic Clutch, $48, Nasty Gal
16. A Travel Bag
If you travel a lot, you should ask for this bag. Or maybe you have a friend who is planning a trip soon! Either way, this little travel bag of beauty goodies is perfect. It includes everything one might need in airplane friendly containers.
Pinch Provisions Airplane Mode Travel Kit, $26, Urban Outfitters
17. The Makeup Eraser
The worst thing about wearing makeup is taking it off. The Makeup Eraser makes that process easier! Put it under warm water, then use it to wipe your makeup off – it’s a game changer. Seriously. Get one for the beauty lover in your life, or ask for one for yourself. TRUST me.
The Makeup Eraser, $20, Nordstrom
18. A Makeup Tote
This is really a great gift for a makeup artist or someone similar, but I think it could work for anyone. It holds lots of makeup in an easy-to-carry traincase. It also looks great!
Sephora Collection Sparkle & Shine XL Traincase, $148, Sephora
19. A Cute Tee
I just think this mascara t-shirt is ridiculously adorable and would make a sweet gift. Anyone who applies a full face of makeup in the AM will relate!
Mascara T-Shirt, $69, Yeah Bunny
20. A Giant Skincare Set
It’s not just about makeup – we all need some good skincare in our lives too. This Nuxe set includes 10 different sample size products in really cute, Advent calendar style packaging.
Nuxe Beauty Countdown Set, $35, Ulta
