Happy December! We are in the final stretch of this VERY stressful year and I don’t know about you, but I’m both happy and scared. Happy because this year was awful and I can’t wait for it to be over, but scared because what if 2017 is worse? I don’t even want to think about it. So much happened this year, but now we have to start to move on and prepare for 2017. With a new year comes a whole new slew of responsibilities. Maybe you’re starting a new semester of school, or a new job, or a new relationship. You never exactly know how the year is going to pan out, and that can be really unnerving! But take a deep breath, because you’re going to be fine. You just need to do a few things before 2017 starts.
When I say you need to do a few things, I don’t just mean you need to buy your sister a Christmas gift. That’s important, but there are a lot of things that you need to do to prepare for the next year and end this one off on a good note. The last thing you want to do is wake up on January 1st and realize you put off approximately 50 things that need to get done – because if you do, you know they’ll never happen, and your goals will go out the window. So, if you are in need of some last-minute ways to make this year not feel like a TOTAL waste, take a look at these easy things you need to do before the year ends.
Reorganize Your RoomI always like to reorganize my room at the end of the year. I know it sounds strange, but when I think back to a year, I can always clearly picture how my room was organized that year. It actually helps me remember a lot about said year. I think about how it was decorated and where my bed was and can picture exactly how I spent that year. Is it obvious I spend a lot of time in my room? Image Source: iStock
Donate Your ThingsOver the year, you probably accumulated a ton of random stuff. December is a really good time to donate, because after you've reorganized your room, you can take all of the clothes and items you don't want and donate them to people in need. You might not want to wear your jacket that doesn't fit you anymore, but someone out there really needs it. Image Source: iStock
Set Up Doctors AppointmentsI've mentioned this before, but 2017 is going to change a lot of stuff. In addition to a new president, a lot of people will have changes to their health insurance, which could effect your birth control or medications. If you haven't already, be sure to make an appointment at your gyno to discuss your birth control options. It's also important to go to a doctor in general, so you can start off the new year feeling healthy and good! Image Source: iStock
Get In Touch With PeopleMaybe this was the year you went away to college, or you just lost touch with some friends. It happens to everyone! Use this time of year to reconnect with people. You don't have to leave them a long, heartfelt voicemail, but it would be nice to send a text or a Facebook message to let people know you are thinking of them. The end of the year brings up a lot of anxiety and uncertainty in people, and reaching out is always a good way to help! Image Source: iStock
Recap 2016My family and I used to do this thing at the end of every day called "Rose, Bud, and Thorn." Maybe you've heard of it, but I'll give you a recap. At the end of every day, we were encouraged to say one thing that was great about the day, one thing that had potential, and one thing that was bad. It let's you evaluate your day in order to make the next one better. You should try this on a larger scale, and evaluate your year to see how you want to make 2017 better. It's a bit like a New Years resolution but without all of that ~pressure~ that comes with them. Image Source: iStock
Start Thinking About 2017Guys, 2017 is right around the corner, which is scary and exciting. If you've been putting off anything until then, it's time to plan it now. Maybe you have a college application due by January, or a family trip you totally forgot about. It's important to organize your life before the new year starts so you can get a head start when January 1st comes. Write down important dates in a planner or notebook so that you can keep them in the back of your mind when the year starts! Image Source: iStock
CelebrateNo offense, but this year was the WORST in so many ways. We deserve a celebration. Get your friends together for a party and jut have fun. Next year will probably be even worse, but that doesn't mean we can't be hopeful about it and ring it in with a huge celebration! Image Source: iStock
