When you don’t have any money, buying gifts is brutal. It can be super frustrating when you want to give the people you love EVERYTHING for the price of, well, nothing. For example: I love my mom. She always gets me the best birthday and Christmas presents. But when that time of year comes and I have to start shopping for holiday gifts, all of my money seems to disappear. Where does it go? I don’t know, but all I know is that I am always scrambling to make or buy something cheap the night before Christmas, and I always want t do the same for her. I feel awful, but I alos feel like I don’t have any other options. What’s a cheap girl to do during the holiday season?
But wait! Don’t stress too much! Even if you can’t splurge on a new purse for your mother, you can still get her some cute and thoughtful gifts within your budget. Sure, you want to give your mom the best of the best, but that doesn’t necessarily mean dropping hundreds of dollars. There are plenty of cheaper gift ideas out there that she’ll absolutely love and that your bank account will appreciate. If you can scrounge up $20, you can get your mom one of these unique gifts. And even if you don’t have that money, split it with your siblings. It’s really the thought that counts. Here are some great gift ideas under $20 any mom would want to receive:
1. Pretty initial ornaments:
A good (and cheap) present you can get your mom is an ornament. This initial ornament is a little more special than a random glass ball because it’s personalized. Plus, they aren’t just for Christmas trees, so you hang them anywhere around your house.
2. A matte lip crayon:
If you’re at a loss for what to get your mom, go classic and get her some lipstick. Every girl loves lipstick, even moms. Give her a shade she likes or switch it up and get her to try something new and different. She might end up loving it!
3. A candle:
A candle is a perfect gift, they smell pretty and give any room a nice and cozy vibe. It’s perfect for chilly winter nights.
4. Organic soap:
This soap is called “respect your elders” so I think it’s a pretty good gift for your mom. She’ll know you respect her AND she’ll smell fruity and fresh. Perfect.
5. Travel perfume:
If your mom has a signature scent, you can get her a tiny travel sized version. It will be cheaper than a full-sized version, but she’ll still love the thought!
6. Some succulents:
If your mom can’t take care of a plant (let’s face it, most of us on Earth can’t keep plants alive) a succulent is a perfect gift. They are adorable and tiny and make a unique decoration.
7. A planner:
Help your mom stay organized in 2017 by getting her an adorable planner. If you are planner-crazy yourself, you can teach her how to personalize it and make it her own.
8. A new cook book:
If you’re trying to subtly hint to your mom that she should be experimenting more in the kitchen, get her a cook book. It will benefit her AND you, since you can try out all of the delicious recipes. Chrissy Teigen’s Cravings offers up unique, delicious recipes that everyone will love.
9. Candy for adults:
These gummy bears are actually infused with champagne, which will make any mom happy (even though they are non-alcoholic).
10. A statement necklace:
You can’t really go wrong with getting your mom some pretty jewelry. You can get her something ~fancy~ or go more casual. The options are endless.
11. Personalized stationary:
Moms love to write letters, right? My mom does, anyway. Get your mom some custom stationary so she can write all the letters she wants with the cutest designs.
12. An adorable mug:
If your mom loves coffee or tea (who doesn’t, TBH) get her a personalized mug. You can have it say the year she became a mom, which is the year you or your sibling was born, for it to be super special.
13. A cozy scarf:
Honestly, who doesn’t love a scarf? Your mom will look fashionable AF in this color block one from H&M, and it will be sure to keep her warm throughout the winter.
