Gone are the days when selfies are seen as “selfish,” because nowadays, selfies are nothing less than art. I mean really, way back in the 1500s, people would hire artists to paint portraits of them. And somehow taking less than a second to take a selfie is narcissistic? Okay, sure, whatever you say. Selfies are an important way to help boost confidence and make you feel good. If you’re feeling yourself, there is nothing wrong with taking a killer photo and posting it on the internet so that everyone can see just how awesome you look. In fact, I highly suggest you do that at least once a week. It will do wonders to your self-confidence. That said, taking the “perfect” selfie isn’t easy. We’ve all had those times where we start taking photos of ourselves and don’t stop until we have 100 options, minimum. So, how can you get there faster?
With Snapchat and Instagram filters becoming more and more popular every day, it can be hard to know exactly how to get the best shot. Is the puppy filter still the best? Should you add a geotag or no? There are so many decisions to make!! But don’t worry, because I’ve got all the tips and tricks for you to take a selfie worthy of 100 fire emojis. It’s important to note that these are just for fun, because you can take a selfie any way you want to and never feel bad about it! But if you are looking to perfect your skills, check out the tips below.
Use Good LightingThis one is a given. You can't take a selfie in a pitch black room, right? You need to be sure to get the best lighting that will highlight your best features. Do you really like your eyes? Make sure you use lighting to highlight your amazing eyes! Tip: if you're taking an outside selfie, be sure to stand with your back to the sun, so you wont have any weird shadows on your face. Plus, you'll have an awesome light halo behind you that will make you look like a goddess. Source
Find Your Best AngleI didn't know what my angle was until recently and believe me it really makes a difference. If you don't like the way your nose looks like from the left side, then don't take a photo from that side. It will just make you feel nit-picky and lower your confidence. If there is one side of your face you like better, take a picture from that side! There is no shame in wanting to look good. Source
Take Multiple PicturesJust like how Rome wasn't built in a day, the perfect selfie cannot be taken in just one shot. Try out different poses in order to have a lot of options to choose from when deciding which pic to post on your insta vs which pic to send only on Snapchat to your closest friends. Source
Don't Take Yourself Too SeriouslyThe worst part about taking selfies is that it can really make you want to tear yourself down. Do not do this!!! You look fab, even if your selfie isn't coming out great. Don't let it ruin your day. Self-confidence is important and can really affect you! If you don't like the way your pics are coming out, take a break. Just because your selfie isn't good doesn't mean you're not beautiful. Spoiler alert: YOU ARE! Okay, I'm done being preachy. Source
Take It With A FriendIf you feel a little weird about taking a solo selfie, ask your friend to be in it with you. It can help you relax and take a genuine picture of yourself smiling and hanging with your pal, instead of being stiff and on your own. Source
Add Filters Or StickersNot every selfie has to be a Leonardo da Vinci painting, AKA they don't have to be super serious. Add some stickers or Snapchat filters. There is NO SHAME in using the puppy filter, no matter how many people try and tell you it's "basic." Go out there an be a cute puppy. You deserve it! Source
Try A Mirror SelfieHa! It's me! If you're not feeling the front camera on your smart phone, you can always go the mirror selfie route. It's basically fool-proof. I personally do this since I am not a fan of my broken nose and tend to cover it up with the phone in the mirror. There is no shame in hiding what you don't like, IMO. Plus you can show off your outfit when you're truly ~feein' yourself~. Source
