Okay, so I don’t look at my butt that much, but I decided to a few minutes ago, and I noticed it has thin hairs on it. I don’t know if this is part of puberty or what (I’m 14 and just started my period a year ago), but I don’t want hair on my butt! Is this normal or do I need to shave it?
Ah, butt hair. Such a fun topic of conversation! While I’m sure you didn’t expect to find hair on your butt when you finally took a look at it, let me assure you that you’re totally normal. Butt hair does, indeed, come along with puberty. And like any other kind of body hair, it varies from person to person. Some girls will only notice a few fine hairs in their butt cracks. Other girls will notice a lot more hair everywhere. Either way, there’s nothing wrong with you!
So, what should you do about your butt hair? Well, you really don’t have to do anything with it. If it’s just thin, fine hairs, then honestly, you’re probably the only person who’s going to notice it – unless someone is inspecting your rear end for hair, in which case, that’s… strange. Plus, there’s a legit reason for your butt hair. Scientists say that it helps trap your own unique scent, which attracts other people. They also say the hair in your butt crack helps naturally prevent chafing. Good to know!
Anyway, if you really hate your butt hair and you want it gone, there are some things you can do. I don’t really recommend shaving – even with a double mirror, it will be pretty hard to see back there, and that definitely isn’t a spot you want a cut, ingrown hair, or razor burn. Waxing is always an option – in fact, a Brazilian wax includes waxing the strip of hair in your butt. And it actually isn’t as painful as you might be imagining. There aren’t as many nerve endings there where the hair grows, so it really feels like nothing. And if you want to go the more permanent route, you can look into laser hair removal.
At the end of the day, though, I don’t want you to stress about your butt hair. Everyone has it, no one thinks it’s weird, and it’s something you’ll never really feel or be bothered by. Do with it what you will, but don’t think you’re a freak because of it! Good luck.
