We are very pro-orgasm here at Gurl. I mean, how could anyone not be? There are so many benefits and so many ways to have one. Even if you have a hard time having an orgasm, we’ve got you covered. But how much do you really know about orgasms? Do you know how long they last? Do you know what they do to your brain? There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to have an orgasm: you can get with some help from sex toys, your bae or just yourself. The one thing we can all agree on is that they are fun. There tends to be such a stigma around giving yourself orgasms and masturbating, but there really shouldn’t be. It’s natural and healthy, and everybody does it!  So here are some cool facts so you can impress your friend with all your orgasm knowledge. They’ll be super jealous.

They Can Cure Headaches

Researchers have found that certain chemicals released in the brain during an orgasm can act as a pain-killer, and even ease headaches. So next time you feel your head hurting, you'll know what to do: Masturbate.

They Can Last Up To 20 Seconds

While the average female orgasm can last from six-eight seconds, some studies have shown that women can orgasm for up to 20 seconds. Some say the key to achieving this is being focused on doin' the deed, and keep your mind clear of anyting else.

You Can Get One Without Being Touched

Some woman can get orgasms from things besides clitoral stimulation, like kissing or even exercising. It's called a coregasm. Who knew? There are also stories of woman who can have orgasms in their dreams, just by thinking about it. How crazy is that?

They Increase Your Sense Of Smell

After you orgasm, your brain releases a hormone called prolactin in your brain's 'smell center.' Essentially, your brain is a lot more sensitive to smells after an orgasm, so you might be extra hungry after you have one, since your brain will be attracted to yummy smells like food.

They Can Help You Live Longer

Studies have shown that having two or more orgasms a week can actually help you live longer.  I'm not entirely sure how they figured that out, but if you are planning on living a long, long life, you better start orgasming ASAP!

They Can Increase Your Pain Tolerance

Certain studies suggest that a woman's pain tolerance can  be increased during an orgasm AKA you won't be able to feel pain as much as you normally would. Some people believe this is the body's way of handling the pain of childbirth.

A lot of things are happening to your body when you have an orgasm...and sometimes your body can get a little overwhelmed. Some people have fainted or even had heart attacks after having an orgasm, but it's very rare, so don't worry.

A recent study suggests that sexual satisfaction (AKA when you have an orgasm) increases as you age. To test this theory, they studied the sexual activity of woman in a retirement home, and half of them reported sexual satisfaction most of the time. Moral of the story: never stop having orgasms.
