You know the feeling: your mom asked you to clean your room before she left the house, but now she’s calling you saying she’ll be home in 20 minutes and your room still looks like a volcano of clothes that erupted. You have a few options: you can do nothing and tell her you forgot and get in trouble, you can play dumb and say you cleaned it but it just got messy again, OR you can do what you can in the time that you have. I am a very lazy person, so I clean my room once maybe every 12 years. That might be a bit of an exaggeration…. but it also might not be. I am never dedicated enough to actually set aside multiple hours to dust every surface of my room and vacuum the floors. So, I clean my room at my own pace, little by little, over a span of months, years and decades.
In high school, I shared a room with my sister who would always keep her side spotless while my side looked like an unsolvable maze to get to my bed. I don’t know what it was about cleaning my room, but I just never did it. I guess in my teenage brain, I assumed that it would just get dirty again, so what was the point? There actually is a point to cleaning your room. If you get your room organized it can actually alleviate stress and make you feel more organized in other parts of your life. But, how are you supposed to clean up when all you want to do is be lazy in your messy room? Well, here are some super easy tips that can help you clean your room quickly so that you can get back to being lazy, but in a clean room.
Make Your BedIt might just be an illusion, but your room will always seem cleaner when you make your bed. Check out this quick tutorial to have you bed looking hotel-worthy in under 5 minutes. I know, since you are lazy like me, you will just climb right back into bed in a few hours, but it'll be worth it to make your room seem clean, even if it's just for a short amount of time. Clear The FloorsIf there is anything on the floor, chances are it's making your room seem a lot dirtier than it is. Throw all your dirty clothes into a hamper and put your clean clothes away. If there are shoes laying around, line them up against the wall to make your room seem more organized. Image Source: iStock
Fold Your Clean Clothes QuicklyIt might seem daunting to look at your pile of clean clothes and have to actually put them away, but there are a few easy hacks to folding that actually save some time. You can actually fold a t-shirt in under 2 seconds with this easy trick, and save space folding your jeans with this trick, so that you can fit more clothes in your drawers and less clothes on the floor. Make A Designated Clutter Bin/Drawer/BoxFind an empty drawer or basket and throw in all the the miscellaneous clutter, like pens, notebooks, or bobby pins that you will probably loose by the end of the day. All of the tiny clutter builds up into big clutter, so once you break it down you will be surprised to realize how clean your room really looks. You can even decorate a basket or a shoe box and keep your random things in there. When In Doubt: Put It Under The BedThis rule will make my mom really upset, but sometimes you just have so much stuff and nowhere to put it all. Big things like storage bins or bulky winter jackets can be put under your bed, a least temporarily. It will open up the room a bit more and make your mom happy, as long as she doesn't check under your bed. Plus, if you have a long enough blanket, you can easily cover any sign of under-the-bed storage. Image Source: iStock
Take Out The Things That Don't BelongYou know when you go to the kitchen at night and grab a glass of water, and then you do it again in the middle of the night, and again in the morning? All of a sudden, you are stuck with seven glasses of water and four bowls of unfinished ice cream that certainly do not belong in your bedroom. Bring them into the kitchen to clear up some space in your room and make you look a lot cleaner than you actually are. Image Source: iStock
Empty The GarbageEmptying your garbage will help your room look and smell 100 times better. It take less than two minutes the take the trash out but it really makes a huge difference, I promise. Extra tip: be sure to throw the trash out after you have cleaned everything else. This way, if you find garbage while you're cleaning, you can throw it all away at once, instead of making multiple trips to the dumpster. Image Source: iStock
