I don’t know if anyone can actually be born with confidence. Well, maybe Beyoncé. But for the rest of us “normal” people, confidence is hard. We’re always second-guessing ourselves: what we say, what we do, what we wear. How are you supposed to feel like anything you’re doing is right? It took me years to gain a tiny bit of confidence, and even now, I still get hesitant to compliment myself, even though I’m so great (see what I did there? Confidence). It’s hard to act like you are comfortable in your own skin when a lot of the time, none of us really are. But, its surprisingly easy to make yourself seem confident in the eyes of other people.
The best part about faking confidence is that if you do it enough, you actually start to feel it. When it comes down to it, very few of us are actually confident on our own, and yet we all accept that confidence is an essential part of being a human. It’s a little unfair, right? Why do we have to be expected to be cool, calm, and collected all the time? The good news is that there are some easy little things you can do that may seem silly, but can actually really help your self-esteem. Here are some super easy ways to seem confident. If you use them enough, you will definitely start to feel yourself gaining real confidence, without even trying.
Wear Something You Feel Good InIt's basically impossible to feel confident wearing a dress that's so tight you can't even breathe. If you're comfortable on the outside, you will start to feel comfortable on the inside. If you wear something that fits, people will get the idea that, hey, this girl knows what shes doing. Shh, you don't have to tell them that you don't know what you're doing. Image Source: iStock
Be PositiveYou know that old saying, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?" I don't really believe that. If you don't have anything nice to say, you should say something nice anyway. If you keep saying positive things, it will rub off on other people. They will think you're confident because of your positive outlook on life. Not to say you should lie to someone...but you should try to put a positive spin on any situation. Image Source: iStock
Have Your Squad With YouHaving trustworthy friends around is a major confidence booster. Maybe you're going to your crush's lacrosse game and want to seem confident and cool, but you actually have no idea how that sport actually works (like me). If you bring friends with you, they will back you up and make you feel like you can take on the world, even if you can't. Image Source: iStock
Don't Say SorryListen to Beyoncé. When you constantly apologize for unnecessary things, it shows that you are second-guessing yourself. The number one rule of confidence is to never second guess yourself. So don't say sorry, unless you accidentally step on someone's foot or something...then you should definitely say sorry. Sit Up StraightI know us lazy girls are so used to slouching, but sitting up straight can drastically change how people see you. For one, you don't look like you are collapsing under the weight of all of the stress that comes with being a girl. When you are sitting up straight you are showing the world that you can take whatever it throws at you. Even if you can't handle it, you will sure look like you can. Image Source: iStock
Be ClearMumbling is easy but does not exactly radiate confidence. When you enunciate your words, people will be able to understand you and keep up, so you won't have to repeat yourself (a lazy girl's WORST nightmare). Image Source: iStock
Wear LipstickWeird, I know, but I swear it works. Once you look put together, your life will follow. Any kind of lipstick will make you look cool and collected, even if you are a literal mess on the inside. Image Source: iStock
DanceNow this is just what I do, but I really think it works. When you are watching a music video of Taylor Swift or Nicki Minaj do whatever they want, it will inspire you to do the same. If you dance along you'll feel a little silly but it'll help your confidence, I promise. Image Source: iStock
