The internet is a beautiful place. It is, perhaps, my favorite place of all time. It is also my least favorite place. It is filled with constant competition, #hashtag overloads, and people proving that they had a better time than you at a party you weren’t even invited to! Fun!
Social media is actually a very intimidating thing. It is definitely fun and cool, but it is also a bit scary. Everyone always knows what you’re doing, where you’re doing it and why. It’s a little invasive. It also opens up the opportunity for people to show off. A lot. Sure, you didn’t get tickets to the Selena Gomez concert, but all your friends did, and they want to make sure you know they were there by sending you 93 Snapchats. But actually, there are so many ways we are all perceived online that are so different than who we are IRL. You can use this to your advantage!
I am the Queen of staying in on a Friday night. I like to catch up on Netflix and eat Oreos. But when I’m scrolling through my Instagram at 2 AM, I can’t help but get a little salty about all of the cool things that my friends are doing. Luckily, I have mastered the art of making it look like I’m having so much fun without them. Having fun with them is cool too, but that takes time and energy that I just don’t have. So, if you wanna know how to look like you’re having the most fun without putting in that much effort, follow these easy tips.
Use LocationsOn Instagram, it's easy to add a location to your photo. This location can be literally anywhere in the world. They haven't made a location tag for space yet, but I'm hoping that one comes soon. By adding a cool location to your selfie, you'll have friends wondering, "where is she?" Where are you? You're watching Friends reruns on your couch. But they don't have to know that. Image Source: iStock
Glam Your Self(ies)What gives the impression that you're about to have a crazy and fun night out on the town? When you dress up in your fanciest dress and pile on all your best makeup. By posting a nice selfie of yourself with the hashtag #ReadyToGoOut, it gives the illusion that you have the best night ever planned. Everyone will be jealous. Bonus: you don't even have to put on pants. Nobody will see. Image Source: iStock
Post Food PicturesPosting food pictures on social media is sometimes seen as "basic," but who cares? It makes you seem like you're out at some hip new restaurant. That restaurant is your kitchen. You are the chef. Image Source: iStock
Pose With A DogAnyone who has a profile picture with a dog is 98 percent cooler than everyone else. It's not scientifically proven yet, but I'm sure it will be soon. Even if you don't own a dog, showing the world that you are a friend to animals instantly makes you loved by all. Image Source: iStock
Send Mysterious SnapchatsThe best part of Snapchat is the lack of context. You have only 10 seconds to understand the situation, and then it's gone. This is good. It's easy to seem cool in 10 seconds. All you have to do is film yourself listening to music in your room. Is it that easy? Yes. The noise makes you seem busy. This gives the illusion that you're hanging out with a ton of friends. You can actually invite friends over if you're into that. I would just rather sleep. Image Source: iStock
Tweet A QuoteIf you tweet a funny quote, all your followers will think, "hey, she's hanging out with some funny people." The quote can be from virtually anything. If you add an emoji at the end, you can make it funny. Did your mom ask you to fold the laundry? Here's your tweet idea; "go fold the LAUNDRY!" *crying/laughing emoji*" Doesn't that seem fun? Respond To Facebook EventsFacebook has that feature where you can say you're "going" to an event, even if you're not. This is perfect! You can attend multiple events so that people will see that you're so busy. But the best part is, you don't actually have to go to any of them! Another tip: say you can't make it to a few events because you already have plans. This will show people how popular you really are. Image Source: iStock
Laughing Pics! When you Snapchat yourself laughing, what you're really saying is "I'm having more fun than you!" What are you even laughing at? It doesn't matter, but everyone will wonder what you're doing to make you have so much fun. Maybe a friend will text you saying, "hey, where are you in your snap?" If you want to be sassy, say "what snap?" It will confuse everyone. Image Source: iStock
Take A Nature PictureAh, the great outdoors. If you choose a nice sunset picture, or a snapchat of a flower, or maybe a selfie with a tree, it will shatter the suspicion that you don't leave your house. If you go outside, you must be sporty and active, right? That's what everyone will think. Image Source: iStock
TBTA classic throwback post on Facebook will bring out the nostalgia in everyone. Nobody will notice that you're spending another weekend at home by yourself because they will be too distracted by your cute baby pictures! Image Source: iStock
