Recently, I have noticed an odd trope in those relationship goals photos from around the web. It’s not a weird obsession with video games. It’s not a total lack of normal kissing ability. It’s not even a weird presence of large, terrifying bears. (Though those are all very much present!) Rather, it is a texting trend in which one partner (referred to in this post, for clarification, as Bae #1) asks the other if they like, I don’t know, Reese’s Cups. Bae #2 says yes, duh–though, presumably, the Bae #1 already knew that they liked the item, but whatever–then, Bae #1 says “go outside.” When Bae #2 does so, they find a pile of Reese’s Cups on their doorstep, accompanied by a string of balloons. And a giant bear, probably.
Of course, some of these are clearly in jest–one of my favorite interpretations of the meme has someone asking if their partner likes ranch dressing and, upon receiving an affirmative response, leaves a puddle of ranch on their doorstep–but most of them appear to be deadly and truly serious. It is very odd! As with all other relationship goals pictures, I find myself wondering, in no particular order: Does anyone actually do this? What, exactly, was the timing here? Was this done solely so that it could be put on the Internet? Who knows! But, anyway, let’s check out the weirdest examples of relationship goals texts that reveal that someone left some, uh, interesting gifts outside of their significant other’s door:
1. Here is a good example of what a “go outside” text might result in. This one is cute, I think:
I was being stubborn and he had to text my mom to have her make me go outside but I found these on my doorstep pic.twitter.com/ksPfSN7neJ
