Don’t talk to me or my son ever again.
If you are like most teenage girls, chances are good that you’ve never actually said that phrase out loud. Those words tend to call to mind a disgruntled soccer mom with a slightly grown-out Kate Gosselin haircut (you know the one), or red-faced dad with a buzz cut and a “Make America Great Again” bumper sticker. “Don’t talk to me or my son ever again” are the words from a parent who knows, deep down, that what their son did is objectively wrong–like egging a neighbor’s car or skinning the stray cats that roam around in their suburb–but would die sooner than admit it.
You’ve probably typed out the words, though. Or, at the very least, you’ve read them–many times, probably–because “don’t talk to me or my son ever again” has, for whatever reason, ended up being one of the best memes on the Internet today. It is not a new meme, per se–Know Your Meme dates it back to November of 2014–but it is one that has proved itself to be remarkably resilient and, in my mind, one deserving of coverage (like my other new favorite meme, snek). Basically, it just takes two slightly similar images (usually with one smaller than the other) and captions it, “don’t talk to me or my son ever again.” It’s surprisingly effective. Anyway, check out the best of the “don’t talk to me or my son ever again” meme:
