When you go to the drugstore, vagina products probably aren’t the first thing on your mind. After all, you’re regularly told (here on Gurl and in magazines) that your vagina is a magical self-cleaning body part that doesn’t require any extra maintenance. You’re warned to keep most products away from your vagina, in fact, since it is extremely sensitive and the slightest odor could give you an annoying bacterial infection. While this is all very true, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some products that actually do work down there.
I realize that that paragraph just sounded very contradictory and confusing. One second I tell you to keep all products away from your vag, the next I’m like, “Some stuff might help though!” But it’s true! Maybe you feel like water alone isn’t enough to clean down there. Maybe you sweat down there a lot and you need a solution to the issue. Perhaps you shave or wax and experience lots of little ingrown hairs. There are items out there on the market that can actually help with these vaginal issues, and you might not even know about them. That’s why I’m here to help!
Let’s discuss one thing first: everyone’s vaginal area is different. Some girls are extremely sensitive down there, and even an all-natural body wash made specifically for genitals might bother those girls. Other girls are not as sensitive, and can do crazy vag stuff like vajazzling without any consequences. It’s important for you to know your body and the way you react to things. If you’re questioning whether or not you should try something, it never hurts to give your gyno a visit or a call. And if you try one of these and then experience irritation, I suggest you stop using them right away. They’re not for everyone!
Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, let’s talk about the options you didn’t know you had when it comes to vaginal products. From items that will make you feel so fresh and so clean clean down there to products that will keep shaved skin smooth, here are 12 products for your vagina you must check out:
Bush OilNot interested in shaving down there but still want to keep your pubic hair looking good? Then you'll love this product, aptly titled "Bush Oil." Made by Natural Spa Factory, this a product made of natural oils and ingredients. Bush Oil is supposed to give you silky pubes, but it can also prevent and treat ingrown hairs, kill any germs down there, and tighten and firm the skin down there. This is ideal for girls who aren't into shaving or waxing, and it's the type of thing you never knew you needed until you saw it. The only downside? It's 50 bucks. Ouch. Natural Bush Oil, $50.40, Natural Spa Factory
FLEX for Period SexIf you're curious about the idea of trying period sex, but you're also totally freaked out by the whole blood situation, then you might want to consider trying out FLEX. FLEX is basically like a disposable menstrual cup, except it's smaller and shaped very differently. FLEX is meant to be a safer, easier, and more comfortable alternative to tampons and pads. It can be worn for up to 12 hours, and can hold five to eight tampons full of blood. Wondering where the period sex comes in? FLEX actually markets itself as the new product for "mess-free period sex." It can be worn even when you're having sex, keeping the blood from leaking out. So, uh, I think every girl out there would sign up for this! It's not available just yet, but check out more info on their site and sign up to try it out as soon as it's ready for sale!
Anti-Chafing GelWhile it certainly isn't the ~sexiest~ product on this list, Monistat's Anti-Chafing Powder Gel should be a staple in every woman's bathroom cabinet. This rings even more true in the summer, when the heat and short shorts and dresses contribute to painful chafing between your thighs, and uncomfortable sweat in your down there area. This powder gel absorbs quickly and acts as a sort of lotion to keep your skin from chafing and getting irritated. It's gentle enough for your vag area and helps with all of the heat. And it's inexpensive! Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel, $6.19, Target
Post-Sex WipesSex is great, but most of the time it leaves you feeling messy and a little icky down there. For those times when simply washing your vag with warm water isn't enough, try Sustain Post Play Wipes. They're made with natural ingredients and are gentle enough to be used down there (not internally, though) as well as the rest of your body. They leave you feeling and smelling fresh, and they don't contain any harsh ingredients. Keep these by your bed! Sustain Post Play Wipes, $10.99, Sustain Natural
A Cooling LotionShaving your pubes always leads to some level of discomfort, no matter how careful you are. Using a razor down there can easily cause painful irritation, redness, and ingrown hairs. If you prefer to shave down there quite often, then this cooling lotion from Shaveworks is beyond worth it. Formulated with women in mind, this cooling lotion is gentle enough for even your down there area. It soothes your skin, getting rid of redness and irritation, and treating and preventing ingrown hairs. Buy this and apply it right after shaving - it will calm your skin right away. European Wax Center's ExfoliateThis is a must-have product for any girl who waxes down there - or even anyone who shaves down there. Whenever you're removing body hair, exfoliating is incredibly important. Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells, which in turn prevents ingrown hairs from happening. I love this exfoliator from European Wax Center. It's a little pricey, but you only need a very small amount for it to work. It removes dead and dry skin quickly, leaving your skin feeling silky smooth. It's gentle enough for your down there area, too. Use this at least twice a week for the best results. The Exfoliate, $38, European Wax Center
Healthy HooHoo Body WashThe best way to clean your vag is to let it do its thing, and just rinse it with a little warm water. But sometimes you feel like you need something more down there. In that case, you never want to grab a body wash that smells like a dessert, or even a bar of soap. You're better off with this body wash from Healthy HooHoo. It's made with natural ingredients and removes odor and bacteria, and it also features a pH balanced system that keeps your vag happy and healthy. Healthy HooHoo Feminine Wash, $13.75, Amazon

Thinx Period UnderwearBy now, you may have heard of Thinx period panties and thought some variation of "Ew!" But that shouldn't be what you think, because Thinx are amazing. This pair of period underwear come in a variety of styles, including thongs for lighter menstrual days, and bikini underwear for heavier days. Some of the underwear can hold several tampons worth of blood without leaking. There is an insert by the crotch that holds the blood and doesn't require a tampon, pad, menstrual cup, or any other product. If you're weirded out by the thought of skipping menstrual products and just wearing these underwear, I strongly suggest buying them anyway. Period underwear are so great for the last day of your period, when you may or may not spot. They're also great for lighter days when you feel like a tampon is a waste, or for really heavy days when you're worried about leakage even while using a menstrual product. Everyone should have a pair! Thinx Thong, $24, Thinx
AcidophilusI suggest acidophilus to everyone because I think it's awesome.
