Feminism is all over Tumblr right now. The microblogging site is giving women a platform to discuss issues that are often ignored by the general public. If a politician makes a women-hating statement in the press, you can bet someone on Tumblr is going to call them out. If horrific things are happening to women around the world, Tumblr will bring attention to it. If a female actress makes an empowering statement in her Emmy acceptance speech, Tumblr will reblog it like nobody’s business (I’m looking at you, Viola Davis!).
Unfortunately, there is a backlash to “Tumblr Feminism.” Girls are posting photos with signs that read “I don’t need feminism, a meninist movement has been started, there are Youtube videos skewering the existence of Tumblr Feminism. Claudia Boleyn has a great video response to the hate here. The offended parties don’t understand that these feminists are fighting for equal rights and not simply hating on men.
