I’m not ashamed to say that I’m not a clean person. I am not neat. I’m organized in my own way that many people don’t understand, but I am not a naturally clean person who picks up after herself, knows when to throw things out, or impresses people with their spotlessness. I am well-known with my family and friends as someone who goes months without cleaning her room (literally months), leaving so many clothes on the floor that it is impossible to see what color the carpet is. I hate cleaning and will give any excuse not to do it.
So, when it comes to buying things for my bedroom, I am constantly on the lookout for items that will keep my many, many possessions organized, and help keep my room neat while letting me go longer between days when I spend hours cleaning. Owning items like these are especially useful if you have a small bedroom, because smaller rooms tend to get messier faster, obviously.
Want to go longer between cleaning sessions? You need to buy some of these things. Here are 15 items that will help keep your bedroom neat and organized:
Bedside Storage CaddyThis thing is amazing, especially if you don't have a bedside table or you don't have any room on your bedside table. The separate holders keep your things neat and organized. This is great for when you're trying to be neat, but also, you don't want to get out of your bed. Put your phone here while it's charging, keep your book or notebook there, some pens, a tablet... whatever! It prevents things from getting messy so you don't have to clean later. Simple by Design Bedside Storage Caddy, Kohl's, $19.99
BeddiI'm not big on alarm clocks, to be honest, because I just use my phone. But this isn't just an alarm clock - it's a game-changer. The Beddi has so many features that it's hard to name them all. You can use it as a dock to charge your iPhone, tablet, or both at the same time. You can use it as an alarm clock, or simply a speaker. It talks to you, telling you the weather and traffic updates. It wakes you up gradually for a more peaceful, happy morning. It connects to Spotify and Uber. It connects to other smart house appliances and can potentially turn your coffee machine on from your bed. It's a white-noise machine, has a built in radio, and includes multiple USB charging ports. It's great for a clean room, because it eliminates so many other items that would cause clutter, like multiple chargers, a radio, a speaker, etc. It's not available just yet, but it will be soon, and I promise you'll want to be one of the first to get it. Check this out on Kickstarter!
A Chalkboard OrganizerA great way to keep things clean in a small room is to have items that work double duty. This is an example. Instead of buying a chalkboard AND a hanging organizer, you can get them together to save space. This chalkboard is perfect for daily reminders or even to use as a little calendar. There are three spaces to hold important items, and the hooks can hold anything from jewelry to scarves to bags to keys. Reclaimed Wood Chalkboard, Urban Outfitters, $49
A Revolving Shoe TreeShoes are one of the most annoying things to clean and organize, especially if you have an extensive collection. Unless you have all flats that roll up, shoes take up lots of room in an obnoxious way. Shoe racks on the floor are okay, but they also take up a good amount of dead space. That's why this shoe tower is great. It takes up much less valuable floor space, and it keeps your shoes out of your way. It also makes cleanup really easy. Plus, it's easy to spot what you want, grab 'em, and go! Household Essentials 4-Tier Revolving Shoe Tree, Kohl's, $59.99
Shelf OrganizersYes, something as simple as this can make cleaning and organizing that much easier. I don't know about you guys, but my shelves get super messy so fast. I spend time organizing everything on them, and then one day when I'm in a rush and I grab something, everything falls or gets mixed together. Shelf organizers keep your items organized and in one spot. They prevent all of the things on your shelf from toppling all over each other. They're a lifesaver! Lynk Vela 4. Pack Shelf Dividers, Kohl's, $39.99
Metal Accessory OrganizerPart of staying clean is being able to keep little items organized, because those are the things that create a lot of clutter. This organizer helps with that. It hangs on the wall, keeping small items off of shelves and dressers. It's perfect for stray nail polish bottles, body lotion, chapstick, and any other random item you don't know where to store. Boston Warehouse Hello Gorgeous Metal Accessory Organizer, Kohl's, $44.99
Drawer OrganizersIf you don't have drawer organizers, you're doing it wrong. These will seriously change your life. I especially love to use them for underwear, stockings, and socks, because those little guys get all mixed up and disorganized so quickly. These keep your clothes more neat, making it easier to stay clean. Slotted Interlocking Drawer Organizers, The Container Store, $5.99
Hanging Scarf OrganizerAs someone who owns way too many scarves, I can tell you from experience that they're annoying to store. Folding them takes up valuable dresser space, I have too many to hang them on one hanger, and putting them in a box is a mess waiting to happen. That's why this scarf organizer is so great. It's easy to hang them up, go through them to find what you want, and it takes up less space in your closet. And you can't ignore the fact that the design is adorable! Umbra Little Black Dress Hanging Scarf OrganizerKohl's, $19.99
Jewelry HolderJewelry is a huge source of clutter for many people. It's easy to take off rings, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces, and casually throw them onto a dresser, leaving everything mixed together and messy. Take a few extra moments to put them in a jewelry holder to not only stay neat, but also to keep your jewelry in good condition. I like this one because it can hold earrings (studs and dangly earrings), necklaces, and some bracelets. Boston Warehouse Metal Pretty Things Accessory Organizer, Kohl's, $24.99
Cosmetic TraysIf you have a lot of makeup, these trays may not be very helpful (although they could be great for the makeup you use the most often!). But if you only have a small amount of beauty products, this is great. The trays hold the essentials, and they stack, which makes them take up a lot less space. You can buy as many as you want. They're easy to clean, and they make looking for your favorite products easy. White Like-It Bricks Cosmetic Organizer, The Container Store, $24.45
Auto OrganizerOkay, so this is actually made for a car, but I think it could also be great for your bedroom. It's basically a storage caddy that has lots of little pockets to keep everything really organized. It's ideal for a deep drawer, because those easily get messy since there's so much room to throw things in there. Neatfreak EveryFresh Auto Organizer, Kohl's, $22.99
Over-The-Door Accessory OrganizerIf you have a small bedroom, you have to learn to utilize the space you have in the best way possible. That means even using your bedroom door as a space to organize. That's easy to do with an over-the-door organizer like this one. You can use the hooks to hang scarves, handbags, stray hoodies, even necklaces. Also, those owls are really freakin' cute. Boston Warehouse 5-Hook Owl Over The Door Accessory Organizer, Kohl's, $29.99
Laundry Sorter HamperIf you don't already have a hamper, get one. Actually, get this one specifically. Instead of creating a messy pile of clothes on the floor, you can put them in a hamper. This makes it easier to bring them over to the washing machine while keeping your room look more neat. The great thing about this one is that it has two separate spaces, which makes it great to hold clean clothes in one spot, dirty clothes in the other. Simple by Design Collapsible Dual Laundry Sorter, Kohl's, $24.99
Cube ShelvesIf you have room for this guy, it's worth getting. The individual cube shapes makes it easier to keep things neat than a straight-across shelf would. It also looks cool! This image features little cloth drawers that you can add to keep things even more organized, but that's up to you. Room Essentials 9-Cube Organizer, Target, $44.99
Triangle Accessory StorageMaybe you don't have enough scarves to warrant an entire scarf holder, or maybe you don't have enough belts for a belt holder. If that's the case, something like this triangle holder is a great option. It holds multiple different items and since it hangs, it saves space. You also can't deny that it looks really cool. Triangle Accessory Storage, Urban Outfitters, $14.99
Which of these items is your favorite? What did I forget to include? How do you stay clean?
