Real talk: I don’t love being braless, but I also don’t like wearing bras. If you’ve ever worn one, I don’t need to tell you that they’re uncomfortable. The underwire digs into your side. Straps either create marks in your shoulders or slide down your arms all day long. If you’re sweaty, your bra literally becomes a little pool. So, at first glance, the idea of #NoBraDay, which is, apparently, today, sounds great.
But at the same time, wearing a bra also feels kind of necessary sometimes. Bras give you a little bit of a lift and a boost, which feels nice. Bras keep your girls in check, ensuring that you won’t have terrible wardrobe malfunctions. They tend to make you feel more comfortable, while at the same time making you uncomfortable. Basically, bras need to chill and stop being so complicated.
In honor of #NoBraDay, I wanted to take the time to try to convince you guys to go braless sometimes. You might be wondering what #NoBraDay is or where it came from. After doing a little bit of research, I found that #NoBraDay is actually about breast cancer awareness. Girls are choosing not to wear a bra, posting about it for social media, and… making people think about breast cancer? Um, alright. Let’s ignore the fact that “activist” fads like this one don’t actually help the need for funds to go towards finding a cure for breast cancer because they become more about people getting in on the “trend” on social media and not even mentioning breast cancer… you know what? I’ll stop now. Let’s ignore the pointlessness behind this Internet fad, and focus on this: not wearing a bra might actually be something you should consider. I’m not just talking about at home – I’m talking about in public.
Here are 12 reasons you should actually stop wearing bras right now:
1. Multiple studies have shown that wearing a bra might actually make your boobs more saggy.
A lot of girls wear bras because they think they make your boobs less saggy. While no one knows for sure, some studies have shown that the opposite is true. So if that’s something you care about, then it’s something to consider!
2. Not wearing one makes a statement.
Not wearing a bra kind of makes a big statement even if that’s not what you’re trying to do. Girls are encouraged to wear bras to “fit in” and not wearing one shows that you don’t really care.
3. If your boobs are on the smaller side, you’ll be more comfortable.
I have boobs that are on the larger side, which is probably why I don’t love being braless. But if your boobs are smaller, I’m sure it feels much less uncomfortable! And who doesn’t want to be more comfortable?
4. You don’t have to worry about whether or not people can see your bra with certain outfits.
I don’t think it’s a big deal when your bra is visible – most women wear them and everyone knows what they are, so what’s the big deal? But if you care about this stuff, then this is a big bonus!
5. You’ll save a little money.
Bras are expensive. They’re also delicate, and wearing them every single day wears them out fast – even just wearing them on a fairly regular basis. If you go without bras sometimes, you’ll allow them to live longer. And if you go without them all the time, you’ll definitely save money not buying them at all!
6. It might make you feel sexier.
Hey, maybe letting your boobies go free will make you feel awesome!
7. You’ll generally feel more comfortable.
No straps digging into your arms. No straps falling down your shoulders. No underwire poking around under your boobs. No sweaty material on them. No lace making you itchy. AAAHHHH.
8. Your breasts will feel free!
It really is a pretty great feeling.
9. You’ll save time in the morning.
Imagine NOT spending time searching for that nude bra to wear under your white shirt. Or NOT looking everywhere for your one strapless bra. So nice!
10. You’ll feel more comfortable with yourself and your body.
Some girls say that going braless makes them feel more natural, and ends up boosting their body image. This is always a good thing.
11. Those annoying marks that bras make? Gone!
Why is it that even when bras fit, they still seem to leave marks?
12. Because you don’t have to.
A lot of people say you should wear a bra. But, uh, if you don’t want to, you don’t have to. And that’s really it!
Which of these reasons make the most sense to you? Would you ever go without a bra? Tell us in the comments!
