Every single day, we are all inundated with tips on what to do for our bodies. We’re told to exercise! Just not too much, but not to little either. We’re encouraged to diet – but no popular fad diets, you know, just cutting back on portion control and making all of our own clean food. We’re told what’s okay to eat and what’s not okay to eat, what’s unhealthy that we can’t really control, and more. It’s a whole lot of information, and it can be overwhelming.
But staying healthy doesn’t have to be super complicated. In fact, it can be as simple as making just a few changes in your every day life. Please don’t mistake “staying healthy” for “losing weight.” The two are not one and the same. Here are 10 little things you can, and should, do for your body that will change your life.
Get A Proper Bra FittingMy inspiration for writing this article happened this past week. I went to a really good bra store near my house, got fitted, and bought bras that weren't from Victoria's Secret for the first time probably ever. My life is changed. My new bras are incredibly comfortable in a way VS bras have never been. I also found out that I was wearing the wrong bra size. It was a wonderful experience and I will never go back to buying over-priced bras at Victoria's Secret ever again. A bra that fits correctly is SO important for your boobs and your own comfort. Eat More Dark ChocolateI know that you're rarely told to ingest more sweets, but seriously, eat more dark chocolate. Dark chocolate has lots of health benefits - it's a powerful source of antioxidants, it lowers your risk of cardiovascular disease, it lowers blood pressure, and it helps protect your skin against the sun, among other things. The bitter taste may take a little getting used to, but once you do, you'll realize what a delicious treat it is. Source: ShutterStock
Start Taking ProbioticsProbiotics are really important for your digestive health, especially for women. A doctor once suggested I take them while on an antibiotic because they help fight against yeast infections - they increase the healthy bacteria in your gut and down there. They're just good for your digestive health in general and can ward off stomach pains. There are a lot of different kinds, and you should always talk to your doctor before taking pills, but it's definitely something to consider.
Wear Sunglasses With ProtectionIt's getting nicer out, meaning you'll be outside more often. Do your eyes a favor, and get sunglasses that offer protection, like Polarized options. Pricier sunglasses like these tend to offer 100 percent UV protection, while cheaper versions don't offer anywhere near that much. A lot of people apply sunblock every day without thinking about the damage the sun can do to their eyes. Pricy sunglasses may be worth the extra money. Source: ShutterStock
Hang Out Upside Down Once In A WhileI know this sounds wacky, but hear me out: hanging upside down every once in a while can increase blood flow to certain areas, and can be good for your spine and neck. Don't do it for a long time every day - just a few minutes a few times a week. Source: ShutterStock
Wash Your Face Every DayI know you hear this a lot, but it's really so important. Washing your face gets rid of gross dirt and oil on your face that can lead to annoying acne. I'm very lazy about washing my face, and I used to skip it a lot. When I do skip it, I notice that my breakouts look so much worse. Whenever I focus on washing my face twice a day, I always have nicer skin. Source: ShutterStock
Take More VitaminsSo many people aren't taking the vitamins that they should be. Vitamin D can cut your risk of breast and ovarian cancers in half, while pills like fish oil keep skin and hair healthy. There are lots of other vitamin options out there, but talk to your doctor before you take anything new. Source: ShutterStock
Go Outside MoreI know it's really cozy in your bed with your Netflix marathon, but go outside a little bit. Just a little! Being outside in the sun and enjoying nature in general can boost your happiness, help you focus and relax, and make our brains feel refreshed. Source: ShutterStock
Stop Eating Artificial SugarI don't like to tell you girls what to eat and what not to eat, but I have to say this: artificial sugar is SO bad for you. So many people ingest it because they think it's healthier than real sugar, but it's not. Artificial sugars disrupt your blood sugar and can even contribute to weight gain. You're better off eating small amounts of real sugar, or natural sugar. Source: ShutterStock
Drink More Water Every DayI probably sound like your mom by now, but water is so important! I have never been the girl who drinks a lot of water, so I know that drinking enough of it can be a big struggle. But when I do spend days drinking a lot of water, I feel so much better - more energized, less exhausted, and more clear. Source: ShutterStock
Which of these things do you already do? What did I forget to include? Tell me in the comments.
