14 Beauty Trends From The MTV Movie Awards You Need To Try For Prom

This past awards show season gave us so many gorgeous beauty looks that can be replicated for fancy events like prom, or just for everyday beauty… and it looks like it’s not exactly over yet! At the MTV Movie Awards this past weekend, stars showed up looking amazing, whether they were rocking a more casual look or something more glamorous.

If you’re going to prom, I’m sure that many of you are still searching for beauty inspiration – I know I didn’t settle on my makeup until a week before my prom. The beauty looks below can be done on your own in your bathroom, or you can take the pictures into the salon if you’re going to see a professional. There’s a mix of styles here that I would like to think appeals to a wide variety of people, and I’m pretty sure you’ll find at least one thing you love. Here are 15 beauty looks from the MTV Movie Awards you must try for prom:

Shailene Woodley's Braid

In my opinion Shailene Woodley's amazing braided style completely stole the show. It was easily the most interesting hairstyle on the red carpet, and it was so different from so many things we've seen before. This is such an awesome and unique style you should do if you have short hair like Shailene - that's how it would work best, but I'm sure there's a way to do it with long hair also.

From the side, it looks like Shailene's French braid wraps around to the back of her head, where it is the braided into a very small little bun. She's also rocking a deep side part and lots of volume on top. It's a complicated style for beginners, but it's definitely worth it!

Holland Roden's Matte Pink Lip

Not every girl going to prom wants to go in full-on glamour mode. If you're looking for something more natural and subtle, go for a look that mimics Holland Roden. Holland's eye makeup is subtle, letting her black liner and long lashes stand out. She's also rocking pretty pink blush and a gorgeous matte pink lip, which is my favorite part of the whole look.

To achieve this look, keep your eye makeup simple. A neutral shadow works well here. Use a black liquid liner to create a very small wing, and lots of mascara for full lashes. It also looks like Holland may have some brown liner or shadow on her lower lash line. Use your regular face makeup, then apply pink blush (I love Tarte's Blushing Bride for color that lasts and looks amazing). Lastly, apply some matte pink lipstick - NYX makes a shade, Audrey, that should match this nicely.

Scarlett Johansson's Choppy Pixie

I'm not sure what I like more about Scarlett Johansson's beauty look: her cool pixie cut, or her copper eye shadow. I'm going to go with the pixie, since she's making it look effortless and amazing and absolutely perfect.

This look is proof that pixie cuts are gorgeous (if there was any doubt). To achieve this style, go for a deep side part and use texturizing spray (Oribe makes an amazing one) to make your hair choppy like Scarlett's. If you also want to steal her makeup, Make Up For Ever makes a great metallic Copper Red shadow (right here) that should give you this color. Add a pearly pink lip and you're good to go!

Kiersey Clemons' Shimmery Eye Makeup

I love Kiersey's shimmery eye makeup here! It's so pretty, and sometimes you just need a little sparkle to feel totally dressed up and glam. The other good thing about this look is that it makes your eyes look huge and wide, like Kiersey over here.

To achieve this, choose a few different shimmery eye shadows - Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Brick has all the options you need - and apply them on your lid, crease, inner corners, and lower lash line. Use black liquid liner to create a small wing. Line your lower inner water line with shimmery white pencil to make your eyes pop even more. Use lots of mascara, define your brows with powder, and then go for a nude lip like Kiersey did so that all the attention remains on your eyes.

Anna Camp's Graphic Eyeliner

If you want to go a little more bold with your makeup, copy Anna Camp's bold graphic look. This modern take on a classic cat-eye is so fun and unique, and I doubt anyone else will be rocking it.

To achieve this on your own, use shimmery purple eye shadow and purple eye liner - Sephora makes a great pencil that might work. Use lots of eye shadow primer to make sure this look doesn't budge throughout the night. Finish with a glossy lipstick that won't steal the spotlight from your eyes. You can do this with basically any color, not just purple!

Arden Cho's Red Lip

Arden Cho is proof that sometimes all you need is a classic red lipstick - it's bold, it will always stand out, and it will basically always look amazing. Pick a shade that works for your skin tone and that feels good on you - there are literally thousands of options out there. I love that Arden kept the rest of her makeup so simple. Wear your bold lipstick with a swipe of eyeliner and lots of mascara to get the same effect.

Maia Mitchell's Green Winged Shadow

Winged liner can be very dramatic and bold, so sometimes it's nice to try something a little bit softer by creating the same line with eyeshadow instead. I love how Maia Mitchell used this gorgeous shade of green to create a winged eye makeup look that manages to stand out without being overbearing.

To achieve this look, you'll need some green and greenish/blue eyeshadow - again, Make Up For Ever makes tons of great shades to choose from. Use a small slanted eyeshadow brush to create a wing that extends to the end of your brows. Once the shadow is in place, add black eyeliner to your top and lower lash lines. Rim your lower waterline with a nude pencil to make your eyes look larger and more awake. Finish with some brow gel. I would go for a nude lipstick with this so that your makeup isn't too dramatic!

Amber Rose's Shaved Sides

If you rock a super short pixie like Amber Rose does, and you're not afraid to get a little wild, go for this awesome look. Amber shaved two small, thin lines into the side of her head. They seem little, but these lines definitely made an impact on the rest of her look. This is a really unique way to show off your short hairstyle.

Bella Thorne's Voluminous Ponytail

I always love a good ponytail, and this one is definitely no exception. Bella Thorne wore her gorgeous red hair in this voluminous ponytail that manages to be messy-chic and totally glam all at once. If you've got hair like Bella's you HAVE to try this. Okay, you don't have to, but I think you should.

To achieve this look, start with a blowout, and make sure to spend a few minutes drying your hair with your head flipped over to get maximum volume. Use a texturizing spray or beach spray for texture, then curl your hair with a large curling iron. Once your hair is all curled, run your fingers through it quickly to make it more messy and less put-together. Tease the hair at the crown of your head, then pull it back into a ponytail, leaving one strand out to wrap around the elastic. Tease and pull at the top to make sure there's volume and it's not flat against your head. Wrap that strand of hair around the elastic, pinning into place. Pull out two strands framing your face (curl them again if necessary) so that it looks messier. And there you go!

Cara Delevingne's Bold Brows

No surprise here - Cara Delevingne's brows totally took over the rest of her look. It's definitely not a bad thing. If you have strong brows like Cara, don't try to make them smaller - play them up like she does!

Use a spooly brush to make sure your brows are in place, then fill in with a little shadow. Use a product like Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow to give your brows more oomph. Make sure you use hairspray or setting gel to keep them in place for the night. Cara kept the rest of her makeup relatively simple, and if you really want to make your brows stand out, pull your hair back too.

Emily Ratajowski's Sleek Ponytail

This is basically the opposite of Bella Thorne's messy ponytail, but it's still super glamorous and perfect for a fancy occasion. This sleek ponytail lets us focus on Emily Ratajowski's gorgeous face (and it will let everyone focus on yours too!), and dress.

To get this slicked back look, brush clean hair so that it's straight and smooth. Pull it back into a tight ponytail that isn't so tight that it hurts. Apply a small amount of hair gel serum to your hair, starting at your roots, to give hold and make your hair look sleek. Use hairspray to finish off the look and keep flyaways away. You can wrap hair around the elastic if you want.

Willow Shields' Old Hollywood Glamour

The red carpet wouldn't be complete without someone channeling old Hollywood glamour, and at this awards show, it was Willow Shields. Go for a classic beauty look with long waves and a deep side part, along with a classic red lip.

To get this look, blow out your hair as usual. Create a deep side part just above your ear on whatever side you'd like. Curl your hair with a large curling wand, then brush the curls out gently. This creates a smooth appearance at the top, with big waves on bottom, so it's not tight curls. You can also try using hair rollers to get a similar effect. Use a bobby pin to hold your hair in place to the side.

Hailee Steinfeld's Metallic Eye Makeup

Looking for a more dramatic eye makeup look? Channel Hailee Steinfeld with this gorgeous metallic shadow. It looks like Hailee used a dark green shadow to get this look, but you can go for any colored metallic shadow. Hailee went heavy with the dark eyeliner, using it all the way around her eyes, top and bottom, but be aware that that might make your eyes look smaller. It's still a gorgeous look though, especially if you're wearing a dark dress!

Tinashe's Topknot

Want a more casual hairstyle? Go for Tinashe's glam topknot. Maybe it's not the first thing you think of when you think of prom, but I think it looks great. It also ensures that everyone will be looking at your dress. Tinashe started the night with her hair twisted into this high topknot, and finished it with her hair in a big high ponytail. Both looks are so pretty!
