Whenever a group of women work together in Hollywood, whether it’s for a TV show or movie, the media and everyone else likes to pit them against each other. In many female-friendly sets, like Sex and The City and Gossip Girl, there are tons of rumors about how the female co-stars who play best friends on-screen actually hate each other in real life. There are stories about catfights, backstabbing, and general nastiness on set.
Maybe some of these stories are true – we don’t always see eye-to-eye with the people we have to work with every day, and I’m sure every set of co-stars out there don’t really get along that well outside of their job. But why do we always have to assume that every female celebrity who works together are secretly out to destroy each other? I rarely see stories about male co-stars who don’t get along.
So instead of focusing on celebrity feuds today, I decided to focus on celebrities who are actually best friends on-screen and off-screen. I was inspired by Adam Brody’s quote about the two Gossip Girl stars who are besties even now that the show has been over for a while. Who am I talking about? Check out these 12 celebrity co-stars who played best friends on screen, and are actually best friends in real life:
Leighton Meester and Zuzanna SzadkowskiIf you watched Gossip Girl, you know that Blair and Dorota's relationship was one of the cutest and most genuine in the entire show. So it's no surprise that Leighton Meester's hubby Adam Brody made news when he was quote saying, "Zuzanna... she's one of my wife's best friends. I didn't know her at the time. I wasn't with my wife yet. we hardly talked [when we were shooting]... she's an awesome person, too." Literally the cutest and best news!
Nina Dobrev, Candice Accola and Kat GrahamNina Dobrev, Candice Accola, and Kat Graham all star in The Vampire Diaries together, but they're definitely not a set of female costars who don't get along. These three hang out all the time when they're not working, and it's one of the cutest threesomes we've ever seen. Source: Instagram
Ashley Benson and Shay MitchellI've heard some rumors that the four Pretty Little Liars girls don't get along, but that's not true at all. They all get along and are friends outside of the show - they're constantly supporting each other on social media! But the two besties of the whole group has to be Ashley Benson and Shay Mitchell, who post the best pictures together whether they're behind-the-scenes or just hanging out. They even have their own hashtag - #ButtahBenzo. Friendship goals, guys. Source: Instagram
Blake Lively and Amber TamblynBlake Lively and Amber Tamblyn starred in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants together, and they never left each other's sides. Amber was one of the few celebs invited to Blake and Ryan Reynold's wedding, and these two are always posting pictures of themselves hanging out on their own time. Recently, all four girls reunited, so it seems like they're all still close! Real life sisterhood?! Source: Instagram
Ashley Benson, Selena Gomez and Vanessa HudgensThese three starred in Spring Breakers together, and it seems like the experience really, really bonded them - it's been years since the movie came out, and they still post photos of themselves hanging out. Ashley and Selena and Vanessa have a lot of mutual friends, and they're really just so adorable together. Source: Instagram
Andrea Barbar and Candace CameronHow great is it that Kimmy and DJ are real life besties?! This picture was posted fairly recently, and it's so awesome to see that co-stars who worked together when they were just kids are still close so many years later. Source: Instagram
Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley TisdaleYou can't forget that Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale worked together on High School Musical. Anna Kendrick and Emily BluntAnna Kendrick and Emily Blunt worked together recently on Into The Woods, and the pair forged a friendship through it. In one interview, Anna talked about her BFF, saying, "She’s real self-deprecating. You think she’d be cool and English and icy. [But] she’s the kind of gal that loves a fart joke, and I appreciate that." I had the pleasure of attending a press conference with these two, and I can vouch that they were seriously adorable together, making inside jokes and giving each other tons of compliments.
