I Spent A Week Wearing High Heels: Here’s What Happened

Have you ever said you were going to do something.. and actually stuck with it? How about for a whole week? Well, I decided that I would try making mini resolutions… for a whole week. I’ve always been the kind of person that says they’re totally, 100 percent going to stick to doing something new, but then only lasts about three days doing it. Whether it’s drinking more water, reading more books, or watching less Netflix (LOL never), I’ve never committed hard enough to stick it through a week. Which is why I’m going to be starting something new every week, and sticking to it day to day. I’m definitely going to be expecting some urges to give up but, I will not let you girls down! Hey, maybe whatever I’m doing will become a habit!

My first task? Wearing high heels every day for a week. High heels are either a women’s best friend or mortal enemy. In my book, I want them to be my best friend, but because they hurt my feet, they end up being my mortal enemy. I’ve always wanted to be that girl who effortlessly wears high heels but acts soooooo casual about it. So, that’s why I decided I might as well try wearing high heels, every day, every where… for a whole week. Here’s what happened:

Day 1 (Monday):
My first day wearing heels!  Okay, I’m wearing wedges, but still, it’s a difficult task. I had to walk to class, which was about a quarter-mile walk in heels. Boy, was that ROUGH. Every step I took, I thought I was going to fall because I was walking over gravel. I definitely got some strange looks from people. I was walking like a two-year old baby: all over the place and just plain weird.

I think the worst part was when I had to climb the stairs. I thought I was going to fall, and the heels made climbing the stairs 10,000x more tiring. Here’s a video of me climbing of the stairs. That was one of the scariest moments in my life. Sad, but true.

Pain level today: 2/10


Day 2 (Tuesday):
Not the easiest day. I had to babysit… while wearing heels. And the worst thing was, I wasn’t even wearing a cute outfit, so the heels were just out of place and super weird. Plus, I had to run after this kid… did I mention I was wearing heels? Not too fun. He even asked me, “Cheyenne, why are you walking so funny?” to which I replied, “Because it feels like someone just kicked me in the foot, sweetie.”


After babysitting, I went to the store and BOY, DID I GET SOME LOOKS. This outfit made me look like I’ve never seen anyone wear clothes before ever, and I was just trying to put an outfit together for the very first time. Yeah, it was weird.

Pain level today: 5/10


Day 3 (Wednesday):
Today was another quarter-mile walk stairs day… AKA school day. I tried matching my outfit with my shoes so I wouldn’t look like an insane person, and ended up in a pair of 5 inch heels. Yikes. Luckily, after school, I was able to go home and head in to bed. As soon as I got home, the smile on my face was so wide, my face was starting to hurt more than my feet.


My feet were definitely hurting me this day, and I just couldn’t wait to be in bed. Watching Netflix. With no heels on. I went to the bank later that night in heels and dreaded it so much. It was strange, as little walking as I did, my feet still hurt!

Pain Level today 5.5/10


Day 4 (Thursday):
Weird day. Weeeeiiirrd day. I had to do improvisational comedy… in HEELS. Dang-er-ous. The heels I chose didn’t have a huge platform and were definitely cute, but I was scared I would just faceplant in the middle of the show. I only lost my balance one time, so I didn’t win the Biggest Spazzoid of the Night award. I was very close though.


Afterwards we went to a fancy restaurant, so my shoes actually made me fit in for once! It’s about time right? These were also the favorite shoes that I wore for the week…brb, wiping my drool from my laptop.

Pain level today: 6/10


Day 5 (Friday):
Today felt like The Rock, Vin Diesel, and Chuck Norris all decided to beat the bottoms of my feet. I went on a date with my boyfriend and we decided to “walk around.” LOL okay… it was more like walk, sit because my feet were hurting, walk, sit because my feet were hurting… you get where I’m going with this. We went to the Grove in Los Angeles, which is a nice little shopping center with great restaurants and fun shops, but it was hard to have fun with the pain I was in. The heels I wore weren’t even that high, but tonight was NOT my night. I did feel cute, though! (When I could walk)


Pain level today: 8.5/10


Day 6 (Saturday):
Nooooo, not the heels again. Please. I’ll do anything. I woke up with my feet feeling like an 10,000 pound weight got dropped on them. I think Friday I waaay overdid it and this was my feet telling me I was not cool. But, I had to push on…kind of.

I was just going out with a group of friends and at this point, felt absolutely ridiculous wearing heels seeing how casual everyone dressed. They were wearing flats and sandals, and I’ve never secretly hated my friends more. We went out for Chinese food and as soon as I sat down, I could feel my feet thanking me from under the table. It. Was. Rough.

Pain was at the highest today at a 9.5/10


Day 7 (Sunday):
Sorry, ladies and gents, I have failed you all. I tried to put on heels today, I really did… But as soon as I put them on, I had to fall back onto my bed. My feet actually couldn’t take it. They were red and even looked a little swollen. GROSS. My mom, a chiropractor, brought home a cold-laser to speed up the healing of my feet. Yes, people. Heels did this. I went to improv practice today and did most of my scenes sitting down…in Converse. Wow, didn’t want to end the day as I did but, those heels were too much!




Conclusion: Wow, props to the heel-wearers of America. This was a toughie for me. There were some pros though: I did feel a boost of confidence this week. I felt cooler and maybe even sexier because I was wearing bad-ass heels! I also felt like I tried to change up my appearance because of it too! Well, except for Tuesday. Yikes.

It was an interesting week. The next time I wear heels will be when I’m able to sit down the entire time. I never thought I could wear heels for a whole week though (kind of), so I’m proud of myself!

    Well, I’m one of those women who already wears heels every day! I know some people really struggle even wearing them for more than a few minutes. I’ve never had any trouble. So, I really can’t relate to the difficulty. I guess just keep practicing!

    That is super interesting! I really like this thing of doing something new every week; i might as well start doing it! I even like this idea of wearing heels every day, though my school has like a trillion stairs, so that makes me think that it probably isn’t a good idea.
    Something that I do with my mom every now and then, is eat really really healthy for 3 to 5 days, so we can detox and somehow thank our bodies with healthy rewards! Maybe you could try that for one week? We don’t eat meat during the whole process, though we try to have enough protein, and we also learn lots of fun and new ways of cooking veggies. I love doing it, and when it’s over you just feel so healthy and light and powerful!
