Comments Of The Week: Virgin Status

Virginity is a huge deal to lots of people. That being said, we could probably debate all day about whether it should be a huge deal to lots of people. Believe me, I totally hear those of you who are adamant that virginity isn’t really real! I grapple with the whole concept of “virgin status” myself.

Are we losing something when we have sex? Maybe. Are we actually gaining an experience rather than losing anything at all? Maybe. The whole concept is really complex and confusing.

But, there is one thing we can’t deny. To some people, virginity is a big deal. Be it for religious reasons or personal reasons or other totally different reasons, we can’t totally dismiss virginity because it means something to a lot of people.

So, for those of you who haven’t had sex yet, this one is for you. Check out these 10 girls spill their honest thoughts about being a virgin — whether the whole concept is real or not!

I am not a virgin however living through the journey of giving my virginity away and becoming sexually active I often encourage girls to cherish their virginity and their season of singleness. Being celibate I’ve grown to appreciate the beauty of not having sex and seeing singleness as a gift. I find life far less complicated and less expensive when sex is out of the picture and in singleness I’ve really enjoy having time to learn who I am outside of all the things I do or the roles I play in other peoples lives. It’s been an amazing journey learning myself and I am willing and more than worth the wait before I become joined with a guy in mind body and soul in such a vulnerable way!!!

I’m not a virgin, and personally, losing my virginity (at 18) was a good decision! It wasn’t some life shattering event; I felt no different or more grown up afterwards. But it opened up another arena of fun and interaction with people, and really built my confidence as a empowered young woman 🙂
