Where Are They Now: The Cast Of Gilmore Girls, Then And Now

Over the last few weeks, I have been obsessively binge-watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix. And when I say obsessively, I am not exaggerating. I spend every minute of my spare time watching the show. I’ve stopped doing basically everything else in the world – I am behind on every other TV show I watch, I’ve barely been reading, and even my hangouts with my boyfriend involve Lorelai and Rory. It’s bad, guys, and what makes it even worse is that this is the third time I’ve watched the series. I already know everything that happens, but this is my number one favorite show in the world, and I just can’t seem to take a break from it.

Somewhere in between my third and fourth hour of episodes the other day (when I should have been cleaning my room), I realized that most of the beloved characters from Gilmore Girls have sort of disappeared. Only a few of them are still regularly appearing on TV shows and in movies. These actors and actresses are so talented and charismatic that it kind of bums me out.

So, I decided to look into what they’ve been up to… and obviously, I wanted to share that with all of you, since I know you’re into Gilmore Girls as well. You should already know what Lorelai, Suki, and Dean have been doing, but what about Luke? And Miss. Patty? What about Madeline and Louise, or Zack and Brian? Ugh, you’ll never know… unless you read on. Here is what 32 beloved Gilmore Girls cast members are doing now:

1. Lorelai Gilmore, AKA Lauren Graham

Source: Ben Gabbe / Contributor / Getty

In my opinion, no other role will ever top Lauren Graham’s role as Lorelai, the best TV mom of all time, but that doesn’t mean she should quit Hollywood. And she hasn’t! Lauren has been working pretty steadily since Gilmore Girls ended. She had a bunch of movie roles (you may have seen her in Bad Santa, Evan Almighty, and It’s Kind Of A Funny Story). But her biggest role was in the show Parenthood, where she again played a single mother to a young daughter (totally different story though). Lauren also wrote a book! It’s called Someday, Someday Maybe, and you should read it, because she’s turning it into a TV series for the CW! I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

2. Rory Gilmore, AKA Alexis Bledel

Source: Walter McBride / Contributor / Getty

Unfortunately, Alexis Bledel’s career has not been quite as wonderful as Lorelai’s… I mean Lauren’s. After Gilmore Girls, Alexis reprised her role in The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants 2, then did Post Grad, which was kind of a bummer. She’s had small roles in a few movies, but when she had a role on Mad Men, she ended up meeting Vincent Kartheiser, who she married last year. Her IMDB says she has two movies in post-production, and I’m still holding out hope that we’ll see Rory Gilmore in something big again soon.

3. Emily Gilmore, AKA Kelly Bishop

Source: Jason LaVeris / Contributor / Getty

After GG, Kelly Bishop had small roles in TV shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Army Wives, and The Good Wife. In 2012, Kelly paired up with the creator of Gilmore Girls yet again for the CW series Bunheads. I wanted the show to work SO BAD, but it was just off a little bit, and it ended up getting cancelled after one season. I’m not sure what Kelly is working on at the moment, but hopefully something great.

4. Richard Gilmore, AKA Edward Herrmann

Source: Robin Marchant / Stringer / Getty

Major sad face moment: Edward Herrmann actually passed away from brain cancer on December 31, 2014. Edward wasn’t only known as Rory’s intimidating grandfather on Gilmore Girls: He was an accomplished actor who did theater, film, voice work, and television. After Gilmore Girls ended, Edward did a lot of work, including roles on 30 Rock, Grey’s Anatomy, Law & Order, CSI, How I Met Your Mother, and The Good Wife, among others. Fun little fact: he was the voice of the Stratton Oak commercial in The Wolf of Wall Street. He will definitely be missed.

5. Lane Kim, AKA Keiko Agena

Two things you should know about the actress who played Lane: one, she was actually 27-years-old playing a 16-year-old. Two, she is Hawaiian, not Korean. Anyway, since GG ended, Keiko has done a lot of smaller roles. She was the voice of Yori in Kim Possible. She can be seen in Private Practice, ER, Castle, Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, Scandal, and Shameless, among other things. She’s been keeping busy!

6. Luke Danes AKA Scott Patterson

Fun fact: I never realized how hot Luke was until I rewatched GG this third time. That has nothing to do with anything, I just wanted to point it out. Anyway, Scott Patterson has had a bunch of different roles since 2007. You may have seen him in Saw IV, V and VI, 90210, CSI: Miami, and The Event. Recently, Scott has been trying his hand at producing. Let’s hope we get to see him in a baseball cap again very soon!

7. Sookie St. James AKA Melissa McCarthy

Source: D Dipasupil / Contributor / Getty

Um, I hope you know where Melissa McCarthy has been considering the fact that her career probably took off the most since the end of Gilmore Girls. In case you’re confused, here’s a reminder of what this hilarious actress has been doing since 2007: Melissa has starred in Samantha Who?, Bridesmaids, Identity Thief, The Hangover Part III, The Heat, and Tammy. She has a great show on TV called Mike & Molly. She is going to be starring as one of the Ghostbusters in the movie reboot! Oh, and let’s not forget all the times she made us cry laughing while hosting Saturday Night Live. I’m so glad the world finally realized how hilarious and amazing Melissa McCarthy is, but I’m also glad I knew it all along thanks to Sookie.

8. Dean AKA Jared Padalecki

I don’t think Jared Padalecki can complain about his success since GG ended. Jared has been starring in the show Supernatural for over ten years now. He hasn’t done much besides that, but who needs other roles when you have a hit TV show?

9. Jess Mariano AKA Milo Ventimiglia

The love of my life, Jess Mariano,  may not have the same hair as he once did, but he’s still really cute. After GG, Milo had big roles in a lot of TV shows like The Bedford Diaries, Heroes, Wolverine, Mob City, and Chosen. But Milo isn’t only an actor: he’s a co-owner of a production company with his best friend, and has done some directing. He even starred in Fergie’s music video for “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” Milo dated Alexis Bledel for a little after the show, then dated Heroes co-star Hayden Panettiere for a few years.

10. Paris Gellar AKA Liza Weil

Source: Catrina Maxwell / Stringer / Getty

Okay, before we get into this, I have a question: WHERE ARE LIZA’S ARMS IN THAT PHOTO? I mean, I know she has them, and in other pictures from the same event, it looks like they did in fact make it out that night, so… where are they? Moving on: Liza is currently starring on the show How To Get Away With Murder, which makes me so happy. She also took part in Bunheads before it got cancelled. You’ve probably also seen Paris Gellar in Scandal, Private Practice, Grey’s Anatomy, and CSI, among other things.

11. Christopher AKA David Sutcliffe

Source: George Pimentel / Contributor / Getty

Christopher, I mean David (it’s so hard to call them by their actual names) never had any huge roles after GG. He did have a recurring role in Private Practice, which seemed intent on hiring most of the actors from this show. He had small roles on other TV series and TV movies until landing a starring role on the show Cracked. It looks like he hasn’t done much since 2013, and he doesn’t seem to have anything in the works.  Typical Christopher.

12. Logan Huntsberger AKA Matt Czuchry

Source: Cindy Ord / Contributor / Getty

Although I was never a fan of Logan, I have to say that there was probably no other actor who could play him better than Matt Czuchry here. Right after GG ended, he landed a recurring role on Friday Night Lights that was the complete opposite of Logan, but then he starred in I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell as a more intense version of Logan. Now Matt plays Cary in The Good Wife, and is doing really well.

13. Max Medina, AKA Scott Cohen

Poor Mr. Medina. Or maybe not. After Lorelai broke his heart on the show, Scott Cohen went on to do many, many different things. You’ve probably seen him in one of his roles on Law & Order: Trial By Jury,  Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, CSI, Castle, Grey’s Anatmoy, Hawaii Five-0, Love and Other Drugs, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Carrie Diaries, and Necessary Roughness, just to name a few. He’s starring in a TV series called Allegiance now, which is still in pre-production.

14. Mrs. Kim AKA Emily Kuroda

Emily Kuroda, who played Mrs. Kim so well, definitely didn’t disappear after GG. She had roles in lots of TV shows and movies, both small and recurring, such as Grey’s Anatomy, Medium, Under One Roof, Sequestered, and The Bold and The Beautiful. She has two movies in pre-production right now.

15. Alex AKA Billy Burke

Maybe you don’t remember Alex. Let me refresh your memory. Lorelai dated him for about five seconds, and although they seemed to have a promising relationship, he disappeared into thin air before Lorelai met Jason. No one knows what happened to him. But Billy Burke didn’t disappear. You’ve probably seen him in 24, Law & Order, Rizzoli & Isles, The Closer, and Revolution. Oh, and he played Charlie Swan in all of the Twilight movies.  Right now he has some stuff in the works and can be seen on the show Major Crimes.

16. Jackson AKA Jackson Douglas

Jackson’s real name is Jackson! Who knew? After GG, he didn’t do much. He can be seen in the movie The Guilt Trip, but he most notably does voices for Family Guy. Jackson recently got a divorce from his wife Alex Borstein, who had a few small roles on Gilmore Girls as well.

17. Madeline AKA Shelly Cole

Source: Michael Tullberg / Contributor / Getty (2008)

Shelly unfortunately never made it big after playing Madeline. She had small roles on Cold Case, CSI, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Monk, and House MD, but her credits as an actress stop in 2011. It doesn’t look like Shelly has done much in Hollywood since then. This was the only recent picture I could find of her, and it was from 2008.

18. Louise AKA Teal Readmann

Our old pal Louise has been doing quite a bit of work since GG, although you may not recognize her with the darker hair. Teal was on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation for close to 10 years. She has a role in a thriller called The Glass Castle that’s supposed to come out this year.

19. Jason AKA Chris Eigeman

Source: Jemal Countess / Staff / Getty

Poor Jason. I was always rooting for him and Lorelai. So I’m happy to report he’s been working since then. You may have seen Chris in small roles on Girls, Bunheads, CSI: Miami, Fringe, and Malcolm In The Middle. He also wrote and directed his own film in 2007, Turn The River.  I’m not sure what Chris has been up to lately, though.

20. Marty AKA Wayne Wilcox

Source: Jim Spellman / Contributor / Getty

It doesn’t look like Wayne has been doing a ton of television and movie acting since GG. He does have a role in Chaplin: The Musical, so it appears he has turned to Broadway. And he still looks the same!

21. Michel Gerad AKA Yanic Truesdale

Yanic didn’t do much in America after GG. In 2011, he moved back to Montreal, where he opened a spin studio in true Michel style. I’m so proud. And I want to take his class.

22. Liz Danes AKA Kathleen Wilhoite

First of all: did you know that Kathleen was the voice of Pepper Ann? Because I did not, and it has changed EVERYTHING. Moving on. Kathleen had a lot of small roles after GG: Criminal Minds, In Plain Sight, Grey’s Anatomy, The Mentalist, The Glades, Jennifer Falls, to name a few. It seems like she might be still doing a few small things.

23. TJ AKA Michael Deluise

Michael unfortunately hasn’t done much since GG. He made an appearance on Bunheads as well, and had a few other small roles, but doesn’t seem to be doing much lately.

24. Doyle AKA Danny Strong

I’m sure you’ve seen Danny Strong in other things since he played high-strung Doyle. Danny appeared in How I Met Your Mother, Grey’s Anatomy, and Girls. He had a recurring role on Mad Men, and now plays Albert in Justified. Danny isn’t only an actor, he’s also a writer. He wrote the screenplays for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts One and Two. He is a writer and co-creater of the Fox series Empire. He also wrote the screenplay for HBO’s Game Change, which won him a bunch of awards. He’s doing great!

25. Miss. Patty AKA Liz Torres

Liz Torres has done a few things since GG ended. You may have seen her in Private Practice, Desperate Housewives, and Scandal. She hasn’t done much lately, though.

26. Babette AKA Sally Struthers

Sally Struthers hasn’t done much since GG, but that doesn’t mean her whole career was based around playing Babette. She did tons of things before Gilmore Girls was even a reality!

27. Kyle AKA Chauncey Leopardi

I had to include Kyle on here because I find his character hilarious. Chauncey hasn’t really done anything since Gilmore Girls, but guys – he was in The Sandlot!

28. Kirk AKA Sean Gunn

Source: Kevin Winter / Staff / Getty

Source: Kevin Winter / Staff / Getty

Sean Gunn has been doing a lot of stuff since GG ended. He had roles in October Road, Bunheads, Bones, and Guardians Of The Galaxy. I’m not sure what he’s doing at the moment, but I’m sure we’ll see him in something else soon.

29. Taylor Doose AKA Michael Winters

According to IMDB, Michael Winters hasn’t done anything since Gilmore Girls ended. And he doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page. Rude!

30. Zach AKA Todd Lowe

Source: Michael Loccisano / Staff / Getty

Source: Michael Loccisano / Staff / Getty

Todd Lowe has done a bunch of stuff since GG. He had roles on NCIS, CSI: Miami, Bunheads, and Ave 43. But his most notable role since then was Terry Bellefleur on True Blood. He has a few stuff in production right now.

31. Brian AKA John Cabrera

John Cabrera hasn’t just been acting – although he has had a few small acting roles since GG. He’s also been writing, producing, and directing some small things. And according to his Twitter, he’s really cue.

32. Gil AKA Sebastian Bach

Source: Tiffany Rose / Contributor / Getty

Sebastian Bach did a little acting after GG – he did voices for Spongebob and Robot Chicken, and had small roles on Californication and Trailer Park Boys. He is also really a musician who has released a few albums and has been pursuing a solo music career as of late.

Michael Winters hasn’t done anything?! He doesn’t have to do film and television. He is one of the premiere Shakespearean actors in the country.

  • LAHill

Nice to know what Michael Winters is doing, thanks. I can’t believe this hasn’t been updated and a massive party thrown with the announcement of the upcoming 4-episode Netflix “series” ‘Gilmore Girls, A Year In The Life’.

I’m not sure there are many TV shows out there that have been out of production for several years, decide to do this four show update that are 90 minutes each, and have nearly the entire cast willing to come back and do it. I cannot wait! I have a feeling we will all be in tears, because the best starting point would be Mr. Gilmore’s passing.

I don’t remember seeing Taylor on the return list, but maybe I missed him. It’s kind of funny that several people from GG appeared on ‘Bunheads’-which I LOVED!-because Kelly Bishop was a co-star on the show. So in a turnaround, the star of ‘Bunheads’ Sutton Foster, and another actress from the show are making an appearance in the new GG.

Oh, LisaBtoo…Paul Anka is back as well!

    ? gofund.me/LoriLife?

  • Mai Busse-Johnston

You stated that Michael Winters hasn’t done anything since the Gilmore Girls. You are so wrong! The IMDB only lists movie and television credits. Michael Winters is a well known stage actor and has been busy acting in live theater.

    • AK

Agreed. I saw him a play a couple years ago.

      • Tammi Riggers

I’ve seen him in a few plays in Seattle. He’s great!

    • Jamila Elliott

He’s been at OSF in Ashland, OR for several seasons.

  • SBuras

Sebastian Bach was a member of Skid Row. 😉

  • LisaBtoo

Jessica, you left out the dog, Paul Anka. Who played him and what happened to him? Is he still alive?
