The 10 Most Searched Fashion Questions On Google Of 2014, Answered

One of my favorite things about the end of December is all of the end of the year wrap-ups you can find all over the Internet. Facebook always produces a good year in review video, as does YouTube, and I love finding out the biggest trending topics on Twitter. Don’t even get me started on the song mash-ups! And, as expected, Google’s top trends of the year are always super interesting.

That’s where this comes from. Google released their top trending searches of the year, and one of those is about the 10 fashion questions that were asked the most. All of these are completely legitimate questions that anyone of any age might need the answer to – and luckily for you, we’ve written about a few of them. If we haven’t, I’m here to help. What To Wear On A First Date

Picking a first date outfit is intimidating because you're really trying to make a good impression and how you look is important to you. That's why your best bet is going for something that you feel comfortable in; a slightly nicer version of an outfit you would normally wear on an everyday basis. Basically, don't try to be something that you're not. Here are three great, general outfit ideas:

1. If you're doing something casual, like the movies or coffee, wear your favorite jeans with a nice shirt and a blazer or cardigan. It looks put together but doesn't seem like you're trying too hard.

2. If you're doing something a little nicer, like dinner somewhere fancy, go for a cute, simple dress in a color that complements you, and a little leather jacket. Add flats so that you're comfortable.

3. Another casual date outfit idea is a button-down shirt tucked into nice jeans with high boots. Simple and adorable!

How To Wear A Maxi Skirt

Maxi skirts are so much easier to wear than you would think! They go with almost everything, and they can actually be worn every season. They're super comfortable and they flatter basically every body type. Here are three popular and easy ways to wear them, but you can find more outfit ideas here and even more ideas for winter maxi skirt outfits here.

1. Pair a high-waist maxi skirt with a crop top. You can make the look casual or more dressed up easily.

2. Go for a boho look by wearing a slouchy sweater with your maxi in the winter.

3. Do something more streamlined by tucking in a shirt, belting it, and adding a cardigan or blazer.

How To Wear A Beanie

Beanies are SO easy to wear! You can literally pair them with anything, and they keep you warm. They're a win-win! But, if you want a little guidance, here are some tips:

1. Wear a casual beanie with lots of winter layers for a street cool outfit that's also cozy.

2. Go for something fun and cute by picking a beanie with animal ears built in.

3. A braid and a slouchy beanie is the perfect way to hide dirty hair or just get rid of a bad hair day.

How To Wear Ankle Boots

Ankle boots are super versatile because they can be worn in the fall, winter and spring, unlike most boots, which are too warm. I can see how they can be a little tough to wear, though, which is why I put together this list of outfit ideas for ankle boots. Here are three basic, foolproof ways to wear them:

1. Pair black ankle boots with black tights to elongate your legs. Ankle boots look really cute with tights and a dress.

2. Roll up and cuff your jeans a little bit to show off your ankle boots and a sliver of your ankle. This is an easy-going and casual way to wear your boots.

3. In warmer weather, pair ankle boots with bare legs and a cute sundress.

How To Wear A Scarf

Part of what's go great about scarves is that you can wear them so many different ways. They can transform into a poncho, a cape, a blanket, or just keep you cozy when worn around your neck. We have a lot of scarf tying ideas here but here are a few other popular options:

1. Drape a blanket scarf around your shoulders, then belt it so it looks like a cape or poncho.

2. Learn the best way to wear your infinity scarf.

3. Casually leave your scarf hanging open around your neck, then belt it for a unique and different look.

What To Wear With Leggings

We have had many heated debates about leggings here on Gurl.com; namely, should they be worn as pants or tights? Here's what I say: wear them however you want with whatever makes you feel comfortable. Leggings are the best and such a great alternative to jeans. A good rule of thumb is to wear them with something that covers your butt, since they tend to be a little see-through, but if they're good quality leggings, then don't worry about it. Here are three basic ways to wear them:

1. If you have a dress that's a little too short to wear with nothing under it, that's where leggings come in. Tunics also look great with leggings because they can look bulky over jeans.

2. A long sweater that would look too clunky over jeans or a skirt is made for a good pair of leggings. SO comfortable.

3. Just wear your leggings like you would wear jeans, if that's what you want!

What Matches With Brown?

Brown is considered a neutral, and so it really goes with anything. Of course, there are a lot of different shades of brown, and each shade goes with one color better than the other. But really, don't feel tied down to one or two colors when you wear brown. Here are three classic favorite options:

1. Brown shirts look great with jeans, and even another shade of brown, like these cognac boots. Brown obviously also looks great with white.

2. Don't be afraid to make a bright color with brown. Look how good this pink looks with this brown blazer.

3. Brown and black is my absolute favorite color combination. Don't listen to any old rules about this, these two neutrals look amazing together.

What To Wear To A Concert

Concerts are a lot of fun, but no one is really going to be focused on what you're wearing - they're mainly going to be paying attention to whoever they paid to see. Concerts are also casual, and you'll be moving around a lot. You should wear an outfit that's comfortable. I would avoid heels, because there's a chance you'll be standing the whole time. If you're going to a concert that's standing only, I wouldn't wear anything very nice - in those situations, it's way too easy to have someone spill something on you, or another similar disaster could happen. Also, you'll probably want layers in case it gets really warm. Here are three ideas:

1. Go for comfy jeans, sneakers, and a cool graphic shirt with a sweater or button down open over it. This is simple, cute, and will look good everywhere.

2. For a summer concert, go for shorts with a tee or tank and a plaid shirt over it in case you get chilly. If you're going to be outside, always go for sneakers or combat boots like these instead of sandals - if you wear open shoes, your feet will get filthy and you'll probably lose them.

3. If you want to be a little more dressed up, go for bold leggings, a cool tank, and cute but comfortable shoes.

What To Wear On A Job Interview

What you wear on a job interview really depends on what kind of job you're interviewing for. You should be dressing the part. If you're in a very professional environment, like finance or law or something like that, you'll want to dress very professionally, in a suit or blazer and nice pants. If you're going for something more creative, like graphic design, you can have a little more fun with your outfit while still looking chic. And if you're trying for fashion, make sure you look stylish.

1. For a professional job, go for tailored pants, a blazer, low heels and a modest top. Or, just wear a suit.

2. For a job in fashion or something similar, go for a stylish look of a nice skirt with tights and a cool looking blouse that isn't over-the-top.

3. For something a little more casual, you can wear your nicest black jeans (although try to avoid jeans) or tailored pants with a bright top, a blazer, and something that stands out, like a statement necklace.

What To Wear To A Wedding

The one general rule to keep in mind when dressing for a wedding is to avoid white. I don't care who says it's okay, I don't think it is. It's the one event you shouldn't wear white - just avoid it. If it's a fancy wedding, take advantage of that and wear a nice dress. If it's more casual, obviously wear something more casual. If you want to wear pants, go for a pant suit or a jumpsuit. Here are three basic ideas:

1. This is one event where you can pull out all the stops. Be a rockstar in a form-fitting bodycon dress.

2. A classic option is a flirty, a-line dress. You can't go wrong with this. Try to go for a fun, bold color, because everyone wears black to weddings.

3. On the other hand, though, you a little black dress is still always a good go-to.
