This time of year is always so much fun – there are a ton of things to do even when the weather isn’t so great. There’s this awesome list of things that you must do before the holidays, but there is something else that needs a good amount of your attention too. It is something that is very personal, will take time to craft, and you’ll need to do some serious begging on your part. What am I talking about? Creating a list of all the presents that you want this holiday season. Yep, I just said what everyone has been thinking since Halloween.
I know the holidays are about giving thanks, spending time with the family members that drive you crazy, and about gifts. But I also take creating the list of the things that I want very seriously. There are long hours, countless Google searches, and negotiation tactics that the government would be proud of. But none of that work is worth anything if you can’t seal the deal and get everything that you ask for. Here are 10 expertly crafted tips on how to score the best presents this holiday season. Psst! They always work for me!
Ask At Least Five Family Members For The Same GiftIf there is one item on your list that you just have to have you need to cover all of your bases. Ask at least five different people for the same gift. This way you 'll know that at least one person will get it for you. And if you get more than one, you can always return it and get something else you want. It's a win, win situation. Photo source: Shutterstock
Use The All My Friends Have It LineThis trick only works on grandparents because they usually don't know your friends. Pull this line out when they ask, "Are you sure you need this?" Tell them that if you don't get the gift, you will be the most unpopular person in your school and will have to transfer. Yep, that should do the trick. Photo source: Shutterstock
Withhold Any Hookups Until You Know He/She Is Getting YouIf there is a specific gift from your SO that you want to make sure you get, there is only one thing to do: withhold any type of hookups until you are sure that they got it. This isn't petty at all, so don't worry about it. Photo source: Shutterstock
Create A Gift Registry And Send To AllIt's totally normal to create a 25 item gift registry and send it to every family member in a huge group email. Ask everyone to respond to the gift that they will be purchasing for you. This way, everything is super organized and you can make sure that everyone is getting you something that you want. Have A Complete Melt DownIf the word, "No" comes up at any time when you are asking about the gifts that you want, have a complete meltdown. Fall on the floor, cry, scream, get those crying hick-ups, whatever it takes to get your parents to say, "Alright, alright!" Photo source: Shutterstock
Lie And Say That You Need It For SchoolParents will always get you something if you say you need it for school. Use this line on the really cool headphones you want or a new phone. It's not your fault that technology is moving so fast. They want you to be prepared, right? Photo source: Shutterstock
Steal Your Parents Credit CardsYou can't trust your mom to make sure she gets the right color and your dad is helpless when it comes to getting you the right gift. So, to make sure you get what you want, steal their credit cards and go to town. Send every gift with a note card from your parents. That way when they confront you, you can say it was from them. Hold Something For RansomThe family dog, your little brother, even the laundry detergent. Pick something that you know your parents will need and hold it until you are sure that they got you everything you asked for. It's not illegal so don't worry about getting in trouble. Show Your Grandparents How To Shop OnlineBe the great granddaughter that you are and show your grandparents how to shop online. This way you'll be sure to get the things that you want and maybe a little something extra for your time. Photo source: Shutterstock
Make A Dramatic ProclamationSometimes a good,"I will totally hold my breath until you get this for me" works really well. This is a last resort, but one you need to have in your back pocket at all times just in case. It's not childish at all, so don't worry about that. Photo source: Shutterstock
