13 Old Disney Channel Movies You Didn’t Even Realize That You Missed

I know it’s been a while since I watched nothing but Disney Channel day in and day out, but it’s been an even longer time since Disney Channel played the movies I grew up watching. Or at least, they don’t play them as regularly. Seriously, this was the channel that used to air Teen Witch, Wish Upon A Star and Alley Cats Strike so often it was as if it was going out of style. Of course, it soon would be as the channel started building movie franchises and creating global pop sensations with every TV show…but the old regulars remind us all of simpler time.

Get a little nostalgic for these 13 old Disney Channel movies you forgot you missed. Even if the channel plays them every now and then, it’s just not like the old days!

Wish Upon A Star

Imagine Freaky Friday but replaced with sisters, '90s style and really great music. That's Wish Upon A Star in a nutshell. While this used to be on constant rotation in Disney Channel's old days, it is now a relic that is replaced by...Teen Beach Movies and the like. Ah well, at least we have the memories!

Alley Cats Strike

Not sure why they don't play this one much anymore. It's the classic story of two unexpected rivals joining forces...with a lot of bowling and cute dudes. Seriously, do yourself a favor and Google one of its stars, Robert Ri'chard...is it getting hot in here?

Genius

Genius kid is taking college level courses but just wants to be a normal middle schooler...so he creates an alter ego that is a hell of a lot cooler than his geeky persona. This movie stars Emmy Rossum from a billion years ago (aka 1999) so if you're a fan of her's then it's definitely cool to look back at one of her early roles.

Motocrossed

Such an awesome girl power movie about a gal who wants to be taken seriously as a motocross racer...and does so by pretending to be her twin brother. Shenanigans ensue, of course. What was great about this movie is that our hero wasn't ashamed of femininity or anything like that--she shamelessly loved nail polish and NSync. She was just sick of the sexism!

Phantom Of The Megaplex

For some reason this movie was just never as memorable as Mom's Got A Date With A Vampire, which came out a month before it back in fall of 2000, but it was just as campy and fun. Like...it was seriously about a "haunted" movie theater...and it was ultra early '00s on top of that so re-familiarize yourself with this little gem.

Teen Witch

Not a Disney Channel original, but this movie was on Disney constantly in the '90s and early '00s. It's the story of an unpopular teen girl who realizes that she's a witch and starts to, well, do what any teen girl who becomes a witch would do: Control everything around her. Funnily enough, the movie was a little dirtier than the clean version that Disney aired. Maybe Disney got tired of showing a late '80s teen flick full of innuendo.

The Color Of Friendship

Disney Channel might air this gem during Black History Month but it needs to show more often than that. It's the story of a white girl--the daughter of a South African diplomat--who comes to America to live with a black girl in Washington, D.C. Set in the '70s, the movie touches on racism and apartheid in South Africa. On top of being informative, the music is brilliant. It's a shame that it doesn't air more often!

The Thirteenth Year

This movie taught you what a merman was, right? Right. If we really want to analyze it, this movie is a fun take on puberty...just with fish bits.

Step-Sister From Planet Weird

What do you do when your step-sister is an alien? Yeah...an actual, true blue alien who turns into a damn bubble. Good question. Watch this forgotten Disney Channel original movie and find out...oh, and admire the ultra 2000 cami tops and midi skirts.

Under Wraps

Ah yes, this late '90s Disney Channel original movie might only show during October these days, but back in the day it wasn't rare to catch this movie pretty often, no matter what month it was. You'll never see a more heartwarming movie about a nasty old mummy coming to life, seriously.

Up, Up And Away

What a cult classic! How often do you ever see anything about black super heroes, let alone an entire family of black super heroes. And remember how aluminum foil weakened their powers? Remember how the main character pretended that he had super powers so that he wouldn't feel left out of his family? What a weird, charming movie...

Get A Clue

Old school Lindsay Lohan and Brenda Song, banding together and solving mysteries with their friends. Seriously, if the movie's "Get A Clue" theme song wasn't stuck in your head when you first watched this one back in 2002 then something is wrong.

Susie Q

This movie was on Disney Channel all the time in the '90s, but Disney stopped airing it by the early '00s. Maybe the story of a girl who died in a car crash on her way to winter formal and comes back 40 years later and ends up having a relationship with a living teen boy who can see her was...a bit much for Disney's new direction.
