8 Reasons IUDs Are The Best Birth Control Ever

Doctors have decided that IUDs are the best birth control method for teens in a report from the American Association of Pediatrics. For a long time, intrauterine devices were thought to not be very safe. In recent years, however, it’s been determined that IUDs are actually the safest forms of hormonal birth control options. Last year, I told y’all about Skyla, the new IUD specifically designed for teens and young women. I was pretty jazzed about it, and I’m even more jazzed about this recent news.

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology has long been a proponent of IUDs for young women, and it looks like everyone else is getting on board. The AAP stated:

“The first-line contraceptive choice for adolescents who choose not to be abstinent is a Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive (LARC), which is an intrauterine device or a subdermal implant. The past decade has demonstrated that LARCs, which provide 3 to 10 years of contraception, are safe for adolescents.”

Basically, IUDs are fantastic. However, they do NOT protect against STDs! It’s super important to know that even with an IUD, you must still use condoms. Not getting pregnant is wonderful, but you don’t want to get gonorrhea or HPV either. STD-risks aside, check out why IUDs are the best birth control:
