25 Natural Hair Care Tips and Tricks You Need To Know

Okay, so confession: I’m not a black girl with natural hair, so I can’t speak about it with any kind of experience. However, I can round up natural hair care tips for you like a pro! I’m good at looking through Pinterest to find the most useful tips. It’s kind of my thing.

I may not have natural hair, but that doesn’t mean I can’t admire it from afar. One of our writers, Ashley, has fabulous natural hair, and I always love how it looks. In fact, I was surprised when I learned that some girls relax their hair so that it doesn’t look natural – I think natural hair is a gorgeous way for any woman to express herself.

From what I’ve learned from Ashley, natural hair (like any hair type, really) can be hard to maintain and take care of. As a girl with hair that frizzes up at the mere mention of humidity, I get that. Here are 25 natural hair care tips and tricks you need to know.

I feel on the Hair pyramid a trim should not be categorized as “occasionally” and instead as “when needed”. Getting your hair cut after almost 3 moths (since it’s categorized after 12+ weeks) is definitely not healthy for your hair. I know every hair type is different but point being I just felt it was poorly worded. Of course it’s obviously not the authors fault seeing she didn’t make the post. Just a general thought I had as a natural of 6 years. I found this very helpful and even found some things I wanted to try. Thanks for the post

I love these posts about natural hair. I’m new to the whole natural movement, and they really help!

For someone who doesn’t have natural black hair you’ve done very well with compiling information. I love when you guys post articles about natural black hair, not many other people do!

  • Yaami

I found it very odd that this list wasn’t put together by a black girl with natural hair. Having frizzy hair isn’t really the same, being natural is a difficult process for most black girls. It’s an identity thing for some, and seeing how this started off with an intro from someone who couldn’t possibly relate makes it look like natural hair is just some trend. The tips are awesome though, thanks!

I wasn’t trying to say that having frizzy hair is the same thing. I know it’s completely different, I was just trying to say that I understand how annoying hair in general can be. And no one at Gurl thinks natural hair is just a trend. I put this together because I know exactly how important it is to a lot of our readers, and I wanted to show them that we represent all girls.

I love this! I just cut my hair off so I’m all natural, now! This is going to be a lifesaver.

Thank you for this post. Many girls with natural hair have become accustomed to not seeing articles pertaining specifically to them, so this is very nice and refreshing to see. Also, it is very well done.
