Today is J.K. Rowling’s birthday, and she just so happens to share it with her famous wizard, Harry Potter! Our favorite author turns 49 today. I have to say that J.K. Rowling literally changed my life. HP was banned at my school when it first came out, but I read it anyway because it helped me understand how to get through tough situations at a young age. I was always an avid reader, but Harry Potter took me to another level.
The Harry Potter series got me through some of the worst things that happened to me, and it still does today. If I’m upset, I read or watch HP. J.K. Rowling touched the lives of so many people and continues to do so even though she keeps saying that she’s not writing anymore Harry Potter books. Maybe she’ll change her mind one day. But today on her birthday, we’re celebrating with these 15 life lessons:
1. Set your dreams.
Dream big or small, it doesn’t matter! Just dream for something.
2. Love is important.
Love really is everything at the root of it all.
3. Women are just as good as men.
I mean, look at Hermione. She’s the best.
4. Everyone starts from some point.
J.K Rowling’s dreams became a HUGE reality, and that can happen for you too if you believe in yourself and work for it.
5. Work hard.
In everything you do, you have to work hard to accomplish your goals.
6. Believe in things.
Harry Potter wouldn’t be as big as it is today if there weren’t so many people believing in it. So believe in something no matter what it is.
7. Practice your signature.
You never know when you’ll be famous enough to sign it a bajillion times.
8. Know when something is done.
Relationships, friendships, projects. Know when to step back and say “I’m done.”
9. You can never read too much.
You just can’t.
10. Don’t care what other people think.
How you feel about yourself is all that matters.
11. Do your best.
At the end of the day, trying your best is what counts.
12. You have to fail to succeed.
Failure sucks, but you have to fail at things in order to succeed and to appreciate success.
13. Be passionate.
Find something you truly love to do and cannot live without.
14. Have a sense of humor.
J.K. Rowling said this when she found out that Fifty Shades of Grey had beat out HP for record of books sold. It’s important to have a sense of humor about things!
15. Hogwarts is real.
