The Foolproof Guide To Looking Like Ariel From The Little Mermaid

It may not officially be summer yet, but it sure feels like it here in the city. I’m going to the beach in a few weeks, and I’ve been searching for some beachy beauty inspiration for my trip. Who better to go to than Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid? Now, Ariel spends a lot of her time under water so she doesn’t really wear makeup. I don’t like to wear makeup at the beach either because it just melts off in the sun.

But Ariel serves as amazing makeup inspiration. I decided to take her pink dress from the movie and turn it into the perfect daytime look. I love this because it’s easy and light, which is just what you want during a hot summer day.

Face Makeup

What's on my face today? I'm wearing Yes to Grapefruit CC Cream (I'm obsessed), COVERGIRL truBLEND FIXSTICK Concealer, NARS The Multiple in Orgasm and arrowroot flour.

Supplies

For this look we're going for a bright, summery daytime look. Since Ariel doesn't really wear a lot of makeup, I decided to use a palette based on her pink dress so this has lots of pinkish hues and shimmer. I'm using Urban Decay Primer Potion, Urban Decay Naked 3 palette (using Dust, Limit and Buzz), Maybelline Line Stiletto Ultimate Precision Liquid Eyeliner, Mally Beauty Evercolor Shadow Stick in Empowering Lilac, Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara, Benefit High Beam and Revlon Color Stay Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Romantic.

Prime And Apply Base

You 100% want to use a primer, especially in the summer. Please don't skip it! I applied Limit, a light mauve color, as my base shadow.

Fill In Crease

I filled in my crease with a darker, shimmery pink called Buzz. You can use a matte color if you like, but I wanted some sparkle.

Fill In Inner Corner

I applied Dust, a light pink on the inner third of my lid. Then I applied Mally's Shadow Stick (it's super light and shimmery) to my inner corner and under my lower lashes.

Apply Liner

You could definitely skip this for a lighter look if you want, but I wanted to add a pop. Ariel has really big eyes, and it does look like she has some eyeliner on so I went with a slight cat eye.

Apply Mascara

Apply a few healthy coats of mascara.

Highlight Your Face

To get Ariel's signature glow, I applied Benefit High Beam to my face to brighten things up. Here's a handy face map of where I applied it.

Blend

Blend everything out and apply some blush or bronzer if you like.

Apply Lip Color

Ariel's lips are a fiery red, but it doesn't look like she's really wearing lipstick. I opted to use a lip stain instead, which I LOVE!

Hit The Beach

I can show you how to get Ariel's hair in the future, but because it's so hot here in NY I tucked my hair into a long fishtail braid to fit the look.

Ah, I dyed my hair bright red a couple months ago and ever since I’ve gotten at least one ariel joke a day. :O I guess if my hair wasn’t long it wouldn’t get as much attention, haha. Looking like Ariel has its perks sometimes though! Kids <3 it.
