Comments Of The Week: Zits

All of us get zits from time to time, but some of us get major breakouts or suffer from severe acne. You know, the kind of acne that makes you want to slather your face with concealer even as it is throbbing angrily at you. The kind of acne that you want to pop all your zits so bad even if you’ll end up with a nasty scar. The kind of acne that makes you not even want to leave the damn house!

Eugh. Yeah, we’ve all been there. The fact is that zits suck, but they’re a part of reality. And because misery loves company, check out what 10 of your fellow Gurl girls have to say about their zit issues.

My daughter just entered her teens and on came the acne. She had tons on her forehead and hairline. We tried spot treatment, noxema, oxy, etc. and nothing worked fast or well. Figured we try the Citrus Clear products more before seeing a dermatologist. Glad we did because Citrus Clear did the trick! Saw big results overnight! Was 90% better day 2 and has remained under control (when used consistently). She has very sensitive skin and Citrus Clear products did not make her turn red, itch or dry out. It’s given her self esteem a much needed boost.

When I used to get extremely bad acne, my dads favorite hobby was to point it out and then drill me on whatever I ate and its effects- meanwhile I only ate out once a week. My acne has gotten better- skip the drugstore ladies! Go right to the dermatologist, a real dermatologist- its expensive but in the long run its better.

I used to get really bad acne like cystic acne. I did just about everything I could possibly try and then my doctor recommended I start birth control. After a couples of months of being on it my skin changed wonderfully. Now I have been on it for at least five months and I barely get acne anymore. I just wash my face with acne wash once a day and I have clear skin. I seriously recommend birth control to help with acne.

Trust me, having acne in middle school does not make you an early bloomer. I’ve had acne since about 6th grade and in 7th grade I finally went to the dermatologist and let me tell you my face looks 1000x better than it did before. I mean a bunch of kids at my school had bad acne that was worse than mine ( I had a very mild case) but I knew that we were all going through puberty and such so I never freaked out about it. So dont worry about what other people say and if they do say something hurtful they need to grow up and realize that not everyone has perfect skin. Dont let mean people bring you down!!

There is a product called acne patches, they are little stickers that go on your skin and suck out all the gunk out of pimples. It works great for when you have a oozing pimple that you’ve squeezed all the gunk out but it’s swollen and you know there’s still more stuff inside. Leave the sticker on overnight and the pimple is flat by morning and less red. It’s been a godsend to my skin. I don’t know about American brands (I live in Asia) but I use the Nexcare 3M acne patches or Miacare.

A word of advice that’s gotten me through though time concerning self-esteem/acne issues is that, if you google literally “pimply girl” or “pimply boy” you will see how bad your acne COULD BE. and in my case, my acne wasnt nearly as bad as the worst one on the google image search. it made me feel 10x better.

Teenage acne is the absolute worst! There’s never really any rhyme or reason to why you’re breaking out, and it always seems like your friends had perfect skin days all the time while you are constantly paranoid that not everyone is judging your acne. Girl, I feel you. I was the girl in middle school that people would draw pictures of, and then play Dot to Dot on my face. I’ve had some SEVERE acne problems in my day, so I wanted to share some ideas I’ve implemented into my skincare routine that have LITERALLY worked wonders. JOIN THE NATURAL SKINCARE REVOLUTION WITH ME, AND WE WILL CONQUER THE WOOOOOOOORLD!

    – I started removing my makeup with coconut oil, and then just cleansing my face with jojoba oil. It’s the one carrier oil on the market that mimics the texture of human sebum, so it “tricks” your skin into thinking it’s already produced the amount of oil it normally does….therefore less oil!

    – For open zits/red spots, I started mixing my own toner with Apple Cider Vinegar (Bragg’s brand is the absolute best) with rooibos tea, and then a few drops of lavender and tea tree essential oils. I kid you not, it takes away the redness in only a few hours.

    – I also realized that I had a strange dairy allergy, that was actually one of the main causes for my cystic acne. Since realizing this about a year ago and cutting dairy from my diet approx. 95% of the time, I’ve seen huge improvements! This isn’t true for everyone, but maybe an elimination food experiment would do the trick for you.

Hope this helps, even a little bit! Remember, no matter what external challenges come our way, our beauty is determined from the inside out <3
