12 Songs You Won’t Believe Came Out 10 Years Ago

When the entire Internet celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Mean Girls a few months ago, I realized that a lot of other stuff happened 10 years ago… but it feels like all of that stuff happened yesterday. It made me wonder what other pop culture things happened in 2004, because I guess I like feeling really old or something.

So, here are a list of 12 songs that came out in 2004… except you wouldn’t know it, because you still hear most of these songs on the radio like they just came out last week. Or, at least, I do. Let’s take a trip down memory lane while we listen to these 12 songs that came out 10 years ago… and then let’s all have an early 2000’s karaoke/dance party, okay?

1. Yeah! by Usher, featuring Lil John and Ludacris

What? This came out 10 years ago? I hear it every single time I go out, though. I guess it’s just timeless.

2. Hey Ya! by Outkast

When everyone was freaking out about Outkast performing at Coachella, I was confused, because I forgot Outkast was popular 10 years ago and not more recently. Or maybe it’s because I hate this song SO MUCH.

3. My Immortal by Evanescence

Aww, guys, what ever happened to Evanescence? I loved this band so much. And this song!

4. Dirt Off Your Shoulder by Jay-Z

I literally had no idea this song was 10 years old. It’s just a classic, I guess.

5. She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5

I know I’ve been saying the same thing over and over again, but I actually cannot believe this song is 10 years old. I feel like it just came out!! My mind is blown.

6. It’s My Life by No Doubt

This is a nice throwback, because honestly, I really liked Gwen Stefani better with No Doubt than on her own.

7. Toxic by Britney Spears

Classic Britney Spears. I miss this Britney! I’ve heard a lot of people say that “Toxic” is their favorite Britney song. It’s not mine, but it’s definitely amazing.

8. Baby Boy by Beyonce, featuring Sean Paul

2004 was also the last year that Destiny’s Child released an album, so it makes sense that it would also be the year that Beyonce had a hit song on her own.

9. Get Low by Lil John & The East Side Boyz featuring Ying Yang Twins

Oh man, I really miss this Lil John. Anyone else? Thought so.

10. Drop It Like It’s Hot by Snoop Dogg, featuring Pharrell

I think it is physically impossible to dance, or at least move, along to this song while nodding your head. Even 10 years later. Also, Pharrell looks exactly the same.

11. Everytime by Britney Spears

When this song came out, everyone took a step back, and we were all kind of like, “Umm… is Britney okay?” No, guys. She wasn’t okay.

12. Just Lose It by Eminem

Even the clean version of this song is just not appropriate. Because this is Eminem we’re talking about. “Guess who’s back, back again…”

Which of these songs was your favorite? Which one were you most surprised about? What did I forget? Tell me in the comments!

Ah!! Feel so old now!! This was great… Thanks 🙂

  • Emily

I still feel old and these songs seem timeless.

I still love Evanescence, so sad they don’t make music much anymore. And I still love Nickelback, a band no one really talks about anymore or they hate on it.
