Comments Of The Week: Your Thoughts On Leggings

I’m pretty sure we end up writing about leggings almost every other month here at Gurl. Why? Because I wasn’t kidding when I said that leggings are one of the most polarizing topics ever. Some think they’re pants, some don’t. Some think they are totally appropriate to wear to school or work, some think they’re totally X-rated. Some don’t give a damn about this topic at all, some will froth at the mouth to get a word in about the most pressing fashion issue of our time.

We’re all about mouth frothing, so here are 10 of your comments about leggings. Feel free to duke it out in the comments, everyone!

Leggings er staying. We all wear them when we do sports and go to the gym. I see no reason why you shouldnt wear a pair of leggings if you want to. In my country i found these http://dagensmode.dk/leggings-2014-adidas-laeder-shiny-mode/ dont tell me those arent fantastic.

I don’t think this is an issue that people should be deciding for others; it is purely personal. I do not like the way my legs look, so I do not like wearing leggings. However, when I wear them, I always try to wear a shirt that covers my butt. But if girls want to wear leggings, i say let them. The gym shorts and guys’ baggy pants are more revealing! It’s not like they’re really teeny weeny short shorts – they’re long and cover everything.

I think the whole idea that leggings are too sexy is utter bull sh**. If women can wear skin tight skinny jeans then as long as they aren’t see through, leggings should never be a problem. Boo hoo, you can see the outline of a woman’s bottom and her legs. Grow the heck up. No skin is being shown.

I wear leggings often, however I’ve always thought that they were a bit closer to pantyhose than pants so I wear them with a tunic-style dress or long top. These kind of debates make me feel so glad that I went to a school with a uniform (outside the USA).
In my opinion, leggings are not appropriate to be worn as pants for most everyday contexts (school, work). I disagree with the excuse about them being distracting to boys though. Has anyone noticed that this happens regardless of girls wearing leggings?
Whether it’s clothes, body size, make-up… when it comes to appearance unfortunately there are always going to be some sort of judgments made by others. You can’t always make everyone happy so always make yourself happy!

I don’t see a reason why schools are banning leggings… I don’t wear them myself but about 80% of the girls at my school do. And so do some of the teachers haha. It’s kind of disturbing to see on a teacher you really dislike who doesn’t really have the figure for it anymore cause they’re 60 hahaha. I just wish certain (not all) teachers would stop wearing them. *cringe* But teens wearing them is fine. They’re just like yoga pants but tighter around the calves. Big deal. You don’t see all the guys saying ‘damn, those are some fine calves’. See-through material is a bad thing though, girls should really make sure leggings aren’t see-through before they buy them.
