Just when you think you’re sick of ’90s nostalgia, you see a pair of platform shoes, cool scrunchies and a GIF from Clueless and you’re sucked right back into the ’90s vortex. Quit trying to escape. It’s no use.
Sometimes I scroll through Tumblr and see a screencap from Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion or The Craft and I immediately feel an urge to buy a crush velvet crop top. Sure, sometimes things got a bit tacky, but I always say that there can be beauty in tackiness. With that said, here are 10 ’90s movies with the best style inspiration. Trust me, your closet is going to be filled to the brim with ’90s throwbacks in no time. If not, well, your Pinterest boards definitely will be.
1) Wish Upon A Star
This Disney Channel movie from 1996 introduced us to frosted lipstick (yikes) and the always awesome Mary Jane platform sandal. With knee high socks, of course.
The quintessential style film of the ’90s. Period. Hands down. Love it. Embrace it. Let it in you.
Oh, high school boys of the ’90s.
3) Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion
Our favorite ’90s slackers had such memorable wardrobe choices. From the gym to the laundromat, they never failed to look tacky and amazing at the same time.
And let’s not forget these awful ladies’ pastel perfection.
4) Never Been Kissed
From geeky to trendy, this movie really hit all of the biggest looks of the late ’90s.
Can we talk about Jessica Alba wearing a knit bikini top to school, though?
5) Just Another Girl On The IRT
This little known early ’90s movie showcases some of the most vibrant, unique styles of the decade. Think Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air meets A Different World. Seriously, go watch this on Netflix because it is a great movie, but also watch it for the stylegasm.
When you look past the dark comedy, all you can see is bright colors, spaghetti straps and mini skirts. Nothin’ wrong with that.
7) The Craft
For all the wannabe witches out there, this movie is your go to for ’90s, goth inspired style. Oh, but with a school girl twist.
8) Empire Records
Whether you’re into crop tops, shaved heads or roller skating equipment as your style of choice, Empire Records has a little bit of everything for you.
Okay, so which of these movies really had the best style inspiration? Which were just full of ugly clothes? Would you rock any of this? Tell us in the comments!
