There are comedy movies that have substance and then there are comedy movies that seem to have no point whatsoever… yet they’re still hilarious in all of their weirdness. In fact, it’s the random, strange, weird scenes that are exactly what make these movies the (terrible) classics they are.
You know about the more recent ones: Pineapple Express, Step Brothers, 21 Jump Street, Blades of Glory, Grandma’s Boy. These movies are all funny enough to make you spit out your drink and choke on your popcorn, but at the same time, they’re really, really stupid. I mean, yeah, they have plots, but those plots usually make no sense. These are some of my favorite movies: there is no thinking involved in watching them, so I can just relax, laugh and feel better about life. If you want to do the same, you need to check out these 20 stupid, but funny, comedy movies you probably forgot about.
Dude Where's My CarI thought about this movie the other day and it's actually the whole reason I made this list. Dude Where's My Car has to be one of the stupidest movies ever. It literally seems to have no point. I mean, where do those aliens even come from? Despite the fact that it's completely ridiculous, it's also pretty funny.
ZoolanderNo joke, Zoolander is one of my favorite movies ever. It's HILARIOUS. I'ts amazing. It's a true gem. I mean, yes, everything that happens is ridiculous ("Is this a school for ants?!"), but I think that's a part of it's charm. I used to know all the words to this movie, but I haven't watched in a while. I definitely need a refresher.
Good BurgerAs if the Good Burger skit on All That wasn't silly enough, Nickelodeon decided to go ahead and make it into a movie. The film includes nightmares about burgers, shark poison and a plot that includes two burger places fighting each other. It's insane. It's also totally worth watching.
Austin PowersI can't even begin to talk about all of the ridiculous things that happen throughout the Austin Powers movies, because that would literally take me all day. Everything about these movies is just plain stupid - but stupid in the best possible way. Every time I think of Austin Powers, I think of that scene where he's in the car, trying to get out of an alley and he just keeps backing up into the wall over and over again. I feel like that explains everything. Where would we as a society be without Austin Powers? I don't even want to answer that.
Billy MadisonBilly Madison is probably my favorite out of all of the insanely silly movies Adam Sandler has ever done. The plot in itself is just completely unrealistic: a rich kid who is too dumb to even be real has to go through school all over again to win the respect of his father. Oh, and despite the fact that he seemingly has no brain cells, he manages to snag the hot teacher. Okay. There are no words for the stupidity, but you can't deny that Billy Madison is still quite enjoyable.
Tommy BoyI've actually never seen Tommy Boy, but my boyfriend just told me that if I didn't add it he couldn't date me anymore. He also told me we have to watch it immediately (luckily, it's on Netflix), so I guess that's what I'm doing this weekend. In the meantime - I'm sure fans of the movie agree it deserves to be on this list.
Dumb and DumberHonestly, I've only seen parts of Dumb and Dumber because when I was younger, my parents liked to shelter me from seeing movies everyone else was talking about because they hated me or something. I wasn't allowed to watch this, but it felt like everyone else was. The parts I have seen have always been out-of-control insane.
SuperstarOooh, this movie. Making out with a tree is a thing that happens. I feel like I really don't need to explain much more, but... if you've never seen it, please watch it. It is, um... unique. And brilliant.
WaterboyI find Waterboy to be SUCH a weird movie. I don't know why. Maybe because the entire concept of the movie is ridiculous?
Ace Ventura: Pet DetectiveI'm a big fan of all of Jim Carrey's weirdness and I feel like this movie is where we were all introduced to it. Also, I feel like nothing really happens in this movie. It's just Jim Carrey acting crazy, making his signature weird facial expressions and yelling. It's basically amazing though.
American PieThe entire American Pie series is ridiculous, but the first one takes the cake because, um, Jason Biggs' character had sex with an apple pie. Do I really need to go on? Between his seriously weird dad, Stifler's mom getting with Finch and "this one time, at band camp..." this movie is really out there. It's also amazing.
Wayne's WorldI know some people consider this blasphemy, but I've actually never seen this entire movie. Again, my parents were strict and didn't let me watch anything, okay? I've heard so many great things and honestly, I'm dying to watch it. From what people say, it's really silly, but it's also genuinely funny.
ClerksThis is yet another movie I've never seen, but Gurl editor Caitlin tells me it's really funny, although also really stupid. Her plot summary included playing hockey on a roof and two people trying to rob a convenience store. I'm sold!
Deuce Bigelow: Male GigoloI saw parts of Deuce Bigelow once, but honestly, I can't really remember much. The idea of Rob Schneider as a gigolo is just... well, yeah. Throughout the movie, he meets tons of clients who all deal with their own issues. The movie is genuinely stupid, but if you feel like laughing and not thinking, go for it.
The AnimalI'm not going to lie, this movie is really, REALLY weird. The basic premise is that Rob Schneider's character is someone who can turn into animals. I don't remember much because it was SO stupid, but I feel like I remember a scene where someone was having sex with a goat? Is that a thing that happened? I wouldn't be surprised.
DodgeballI'm a huge fan of Ben Stiller's ridiculous comedies (look how much I love Zoolander) and I love Vince Vaughn, so obviously I love this movie. But it's crazy! The whole movie is about a dodgeball tournament and it might be the most I've ever heard about dodgeball ever. Also, Lance Armstrong makes an appearance?
Harold and Kumar Go To White CastleThe title of this movie alone should let you know how absolutely ridiculous and pointless it is. It's about two guys. Going to White Castle. That is literally what it is about.
Happy GilmoreThis is another one of my favorite Adam Sandler films. It's really, really silly (as it should be), but it's also really funny. Remember the coach with the wooden hand? There are a lot of great jokes in this movie and it is definitely worth a rewatch.
Scary MovieI think all of the Scary Movie films are very amusing, but the first one is probably my favorite because they basically made fun of Scream the entire time. Scream is one of my favorite movies, but it's SO easy to make fun of.
The Hot ChickEven though this movie is boderline creepy, I actually love it because it's so ridiculous that it ends up being really funny. Also, Rachel McAdams is in it and I love her. Rob Schneider as a girl is pretty priceless. If you've never seen it, I suggest you watch it.
Which of these movies is your favorite? Which do you dislike? What did I forget about? Tell me in the comments.
