Full House is one of those shows that you can’t really forget even if you wanted to. It’s permanently pressed into our childhood memories, whether you like it or not. I mean, who doesn’t know the theme song? Who doesn’t remember baby Mary-Kate and Ashley on there? Who doesn’t recall Bob Saget playing the lamest dad on the planet?
And if that isn’t enough to be memorable for you, you should at least realize that Full House is formative because it inspired an entire generation–our generation–to be afraid of peer pressure. From alcohol to cigarettes, this show was like a D.A.R.E. ad with a laugh track.
Anyway, this show is full of memorable moments. Here are 10 of them that definitely changed my life.
DJ's Crash DietDepicting the hazards of crash dieting, body image concerns and eating disorders were only just starting to become standard in the '80s and '90s, so of course Full House dedicated an episode to it. Sure, it was melodramatic like every other special episode, but at least it highlighted the issue in a way that made girls feel less alone in their quest for bodily "perfection." Stephanie, The Child BrideEvery family sitcom needs an episode about the middle child feeling sad about being a middle child. So what's Stephanie's solution to her little middle child crisis? Move out. How will she do that? Oh, marry some kid named Harry who proposed to her. Smart decision. Source: Full House/ABC
Jesse Was Big In JapanRemember how Joey became a big hit in Japan but flopped in the states? And how he was going to tour there until he, you know, remembered that he had a wife and two babies that probably needed him more than the population of Japan did? Yeah, good times. Source: Full House/ABC
Teddy Moves AwayNot many shows actually depicted how much it sucks to deal with a friend moving away, but who didn't feel for Michelle when Teddy (played by Tahj Mowry) moved away. Also, like...this kid was just such a cutie! Source: Full House/ABC
Just Say No...To Middle School JerksJesse thought that DJ was drinking at a school dance but it was all a big misunderstanding. The booze actually belonged to her crappy date and his crappy friends. I mean, seriously, who brings that to a middle school dance? Source: Full House/ABC
Stephanie Ridin' DirtyStephanie went on some joy rides with some cool new friends of hers...only to find out that one of the rides she missed resulted in a car accident. She dodged a bullet but this episode was definitely enough to never trust your friends behind the wheel ever again. Source: Full House/ABC
Kimmy Gibbler Driving Me CrazyI used to feel bad for the way the Tanner family treated Kimmy, but in retrospect she was so unbearably annoying that I really don't blame them. Source: Full House/ABC
Understanding That Death SucksI don't handle death very well at all, and TV show deaths used to really eff me up as a kid...and this episode was no exception Source: Full House/ABC
Michelle's Giant FeetLet me just say that I relate to this episode so much. As a girl with massive feet, I don't blame Michelle for feeling so sad about getting made fun of. Source: Full House/ABC
Stephanie SmokingWow, Stephanie just gets into a heap of trouble, doesn't she? I mean, who else but her to befriend a roving gang of girls who smoke in the bathroom? Source: Full House/ABC
