The idea of New Year’s resolutions is great. I get it. It’s a new year, you want a new you! Resolutions aim to help you be the best you that you can be for the upcoming year. The problem with resolutions is that everyone makes these wild ones that are nearly impossible to maintain for longer than two weeks.
What’s the point of even making a resolution if you’re not going to keep it? There isn’t one. Resolutions are like that bad ex who after every fight was like, “I’ll do better” and would be amazing for a week and then go back to being a jerk. Don’t let that happen. How about we all resolve to actually make resolutions we can keep?
Here are some resolutions NOT to make for 2014 because you probably won’t keep them. And if you do keep them, props to you!
Cutting X Out Of Your Diet Completely
There is nothing wrong with wanting to eat healthy and being nice to your body. However, starting the new year by eliminating bread and going on some crazy diet is not the way to go. Everything in moderation, ladies.
Go To The Gym Every Day
Getting fit is one of the most popular resolutions, which is great. Yay for activities! But be realistic about your goals. You're going to pass out if you go to the gym every single day. You need a rest day, first of all. And second, if you want to get in better shape, start small by hitting the gym once a week and building up from there. Or join a class with some friends to make it fun. Don't just sign up for a year-long boot camp that you'll never go to.
Drastically Change Your Hair
Okay, I don't mean you shouldn't get that bob you've been wanting since October. If you've been pondering a serious hair cut for a while, then go for it. But if you want to do something drastic just because it's the new year, hold your horses.
Find A BF/GF
You can't resolve to find love! Relationships aren't something to be forced, and you need to just let them occur. Don't make 2014 the year to find love. Make it a year to be awesome and meet people who you might fall in love with.
Give Up On Love
Just like you shouldn't vow to find love this year, don't vow to not find it either. You never know what will hit you when you least expect it.
Give Up Social Media
Nice try, but you'll be back on Facebook and Twitter by January 2nd.
Reinvent Your Entire Look
I think reinventing your look is a fun thing to do. But it's not a quick thing, it's a process! Don't just throw out your entire closet on New Year's Day and start over. Cultivate your style throughout the year and figure out what you really like.
Break A Bad Habit Immediately
It's really hard to break a bad habit cold turkey. It can be done, but work on slowly breaking a habit. If you bite your nails, start by rewarding yourself for every day you don't bite them instead of just saying you'll never bite them again. You'll get there.
Become One With Nature
Spending time outside is really good for you, and you should be in touch with nature. But sadly, almost everything we do involves technology. You're not about to become a nomad and roam the wilderness.
Be Totally Organized
I resolve to do be more organized every time I clean my room. Some people just can't keep their space completely color coded, and that's okay. If you do want to get more organized, start with a small area first and work up to larger spaces. Work on keeping a small space organized for longer than a week and see how that goes first.
