I don’t think we’ll ever get tired of learning new things about sex. We’re always looking for the best ways to improve sex or what can cause what STDs or if porn is ruining everything or how does your clitoris work anyway? One of the coolest things about sex is that there is always new information and always something to learn.
It’s a good day when we get to write about some sex study or get new deets on how guys operate. That’s one of the job perks! This year was full of all kinds of sexy information. Dare I say, it might have been the sexiest year yet (and, no, not because of Miley). We’ve learned a lot of things like that oral sex can cause cancer, but that it’s also really awesome. And we’ve learned that a lot can go wrong during sex too.
But here are by far the best 13 things we’ve learned about sex this year:
Men Regret Not Having Enough Sex
You never want to have regrets when it comes to sex, but when we think regrets, we think about negative things. A study showed us that women often regret having too much sex, but men regret not having enough of it. The study says that men are hardwired to want to have as much sex as possible in order to reproduce, but it kind of makes us think we're supposed to feel guilty for casual hookups.
You Might Have Better Sex When You're In A Relationship
A study showed that you have better sex when you're in a relationship than when you're having sex with someone new. It notes that when hooking up leads to better sex, it's because of the excitement of being with someone new. But the longer you're with someone and get to know someone, the better sex you're going to have.
Watching Porn Doesn't Ruin Your Sex Life
There have been a lot of studies that claim watching porn will ruin your sex life, but this one says the opposite. Out of those surveyed, only 0.3 to 4 percent of "risky" sexual behaviors were connected to porn use. So basically, people know the difference between porn and reality. You or your partner watching porn isn't going to turn either of you into wild sex beasts.
You Do And Think About A Lot Of Secret Things During Sex
You might not want to admit these things to your partner, but you hold onto a lot of secrets during sex. You might think about someone else or things that you really need to be doing. Or you might even wonder if you'll have to fake it, even though you shouldn't.
Casual Sex Could Be Caused By Depression
A study claimed that college students who engaged in casual sex often suffered from depression and anxiety. While many studies claim that casual sex causes depression, this study sort of says the opposite. Either way, the results for men and women were the same, which made us feel better about the whole "women regret casual sex" thing.
Certain Foods Can Make Your Sex Life Better
What's better than eating and sex? Nothing! It turns out that there are a lot of foods that can make your sex life way better from pumpkin pie to watermelon to arugula. Seriously! Asparagus can even make it easier for you to have an orgasm.
You Don't Have To Be Sure About Your Sexuality
You don't have to label yourself. If you're unsure about your sexuality, it's okay. You don't have to call yourself bi, a lesbian, straight or anything. Love who you love, that's it.
Women Judge Other Women Based On How Much Sex They Have
A study revealed that out of 721 male and female college students, nine out of ten women listed promiscuity as a negative trait in other women. And these women also listed that they were sexually active. Yikes! What happened to not slut shaming? Even more, the study showed that guys don't judge women as harshly for having sex.
Sexual Violence Is More Prominent Than We Thought
Sexual violence is a huge problem, and a survey revealed that one in ten young Americans have committed an act of sexual violence. And in every case, the perpetrator knew the victim. A huge "63 percent of perpetrators guilted their victims into it, 32 percent argued or pressured the victim into it, 15 percent used alcohol as a weapon, eight percent used physical force and five percent threatened to use physical force." That is some super scary stuff.
You Can Replace Dirty Talk With Just One Word
Some people aren't into dirty talk in bed, which is totally fine! It's fun and exciting, but you don't really need it. According to a study, simply saying "yes" in bed gives your partner positive reinforcement. So if you like what they're doing, saying yes means they'll keep doing it!
Sex Can Make You Smarter
I'll take sex over studying any day! It's true that having regular sex boosts nerve growth, which is a large part of brain development and activity. Having regular sex not only can make you smarter, but it can also lower stress and make you more relaxed.
You Have Better Sex With Someone You Trust
There are a lot of aspects that go into good sex, but trust seems to be one of the most important. A survey said that for the majority of people, sex is the hottest when it's with someone you trust. Seriously, 87 percent of women said being with someone they trusted resulted in better sex. 95 percent of men agreed and said that some kind of emotional connection makes sex better.
Your Guy Friends Want To Have Sex With You
Apparently, all of your guy friends want to have sex with you. Guys know within seconds if they'd "do you" or not, and if they can manage to be friends with you and not want to have sex with you then they aren't "most guys." I'm sure some of your guy friends think you're a babe and would love to have sex with you, but it IS possible to have completely platonic guy friends.
