When I get bored with my hair, I tend to dye it instead of chop it because I hate myself with short hair. I’ve been doing the ombre thing on my own for a while and recently went a little lighter, but I’ve been thinking about doing it even more. Usually I go darker for the winter. I’m feeling a bit rebellious though.
So I’m going home tonight and will be getting a tiny trim. While I’m at the salon, I think I might take the plunge and go even blonder. I haven’t quite made up my mind yet, but I’m really really considering it.
I think talking out some things to think about before you go blonde will help me make up my mind.
Decide What Shade Really Works For You
There are so many variations of blonde! Take into consideration your skin tone, eye color and whether you fall on the warm or cool spectrum. I suggest looking and pictures of celebs who have gone from dark to light and see what look might work for you.
Try Something Small First
Start with some lowlights, highlights or ombre first before taking the big jump into blondehood. That way you can get a feel for a lighter hair and to see how lightening your hair might damage yours.
Don't Do It At Home
I'm totally into dying your hair at home, I really am. But doing a drastic change like this, especially one that involves bleach, is best left to the professionals.
Do It Gradually
One of the healthiest and best ways to go from dark to light. Sure, you're not getting the instant results you want, but your hair won't totally hate you if you lighten it a shade at a time.
Get Rid Of Those Damaged Ends
I recommend doing the trim after you dye your hair since the dye could cause more damage. You're going to want to get rid of all of those split ends that feel like hay.
Purple Shampoo Is Your BFF
I don't know how I live without purple shampoo. If you've gone lighter, you'll know that your hair can turn brassy, especially if you have red undertones in your hair already. Purple shampoo will tone your hair and take that copper look out.
Remember You Can Always Go Back
You can always dye your hair back! If you don't like it or get sick of it, going back to dark isn't hard.
