10 Things You Need To Know Before Your First Brazilian or Bikini Wax

TMI time: this weekend, I got my first Brazilian wax ever. Actually, it was my first wax ever, period. I was lucky enough to be born with eyebrows that require zero maintenance and I’ve never been very, uh, hairy anywhere. I’ve stuck with shaving my whole life, but here’s the thing: I absolutely HATE shaving (hate, hate, hate), but I don’t like having hair either, so… yeah, it’s difficult.

I’ve been super curious about waxing since high school, when my friends started returning from the nail salon with thin, red eyebrows and I started wondering what it was like. Waxing seemed like the solution to my shaving woes, but the thought of it also terrified me. After seeing the 40-Year-Old Virgin, I was convinced that I could never stand that kind of pain. Having hot wax poured on my skin only to have clumps of hair ripped out afterwards? No thanks. Doing it on my legs or armpits seemed bad enough – I couldn’t even think about what a Brazilian or bikini wax would feel like. It seemed like pure torture.

But then one day, my best friend told me about how she had started getting Brazilian waxes. I gasped in horror, but she insisted they weren’t that bad. I started thinking about how nice it would be to stop attempting to maneuver a razor down there once a week and instead dealing with one 15-minute session of pain followed by 3-4 hairless weeks. It was very tempting and so, I decided to go for it. I got my first Brazilian wax the other day and, well, I’ll probably never go back to shaving down there. I’ve been converted.

I obviously know what it feels like to be curious but scared of waxing down there. If you’re in the same boat that I was in for years, trust me: you should read this. Of course, no girl has to shave down there at all if she doesn’t want to – but there’s also nothing wrong with wanting to be hairless down there! So, if you’re thinking of going for it, here are 10 things you need to know before your first Brazilian (or bikini) wax. Good luck!

Is waxing causes loosing skin of vegina area? Plz suggest me

  • Brazilian waxing will change your life! The hair grows back in softer and finer so it doesn’t feel like a prickly beard like it does when you shave. Also, less hair grows back in each time which means it will be less painful! Here’s an article on our website for tips on getting the perfect brazilian wax. Hope it helps! -HK Wax Center – Austin Arbor (512) 501-2767 http://www.hkwaxcenter.com/blog/8-tips-to-getting-a-perfect-brazilian-wax/

    I. Have had dozens of be
Brazilian waxes. I rather enjoy them. Little to no pain for me.

I know this article was forever ago but I was curious… been reading other reports and it’s making me really curious… so I’ve never had a waxing.. ever… and I never completely shave down there just the ends to make a somewhat clean top line.. I’m weird. But what I want to ask is, for a first timer, about how do you think i should go about trying to prep? If say I do get a waxing, should I try shaving then so the recommended wait of five days? Or could I walk in with my jungle? (Sorry for odd words I’m only 18 and just curious as hell for summer time ideas)… oh, should mention I literally never thought about this before because I grew up viewing myself as a tomboy… I never liked the classic girl stuff. I’m becoming a bit more interested and just wanna see what it’d be like…

Does it hurt more or about the same as getting your eyebrows/upper lip done?

    • niamh

It will definitely hurt more because your vagina is a very sensitive part of your body. But it is completely worth it.

  • jaderz02

This woman lost all credibility when she said they put wax inside her vagina. If wax is going INSIDE your body, the technician is doing something horribly wrong and you need to leave the salon immediately. For those who need a proper anatomy lesson: like the author, the waxed area is your vulva. Your labia (or lips) will be waxed; never your vagina… The vagina is also known as the birth canal and is inside your body. There is no reason for wax to be going inside your body.

    • Mihaela

Oh please, calm the f down. It’s just how she chose to word herself. Nowhere in the world are they actually gonna put pax INSIDE your body….

I just want to say that I am super thankful for this article. I watched it an hour before my appointment and it helped! Took a painkiller 30 minutes before and I think it helped considering I had just finished my period. So far no problems and I feel clean!

  • Priscilla

I’m 21 and I have an appointment for my first Brazilian tomorrow. I feel nervous. I have my first pap smear in a week as well. Perhaps a wax is not a necessary step to prepare for it but the hair is uncomfortable. I don’t think it will lead to casual sex. There are deeper roots to the motivation/influence for that behavior. As for me it is to feel more comfortable with myself.

  • Ingrid Jena Welborn

Okay I need to ask something… but I’m totally embarassed

  • M

How does the pain from a Brazilian compare to an eyebrow wax? I barely felt the eyebrow wax.

  • Crystal

I went and got a facial waxing once. It hurt but not overly so. But afterwards I had a major allergic reaction where my face broke out in hives. The bumps and stuff were in lives across my face where she had put the wave and strips. She used hot wax but I’m not sure what kind. Does that mean I shouldn’t get waxed anywhere else without the same thing happening? Honestly the rash and hives after the waxing was more painful then the waxing itself.

    • Rosie Posie

I know im 3 years too late for you but just for anyone else who is curious,if your doing facial waxing for the first time expect bumps and redness like crystal. Its a skin reaction but it will only happen the first time after waxing as the skin is sensitive and hasnt been waxed before.

  • HeySugar

Waxing is painful but trust me, it worths

  • NorthStarSea

Waxing is better for anywhere as far as pain goes, because when you shave, you slice the naturally tapered ends off, so it pushes through the top couple layers of skin with a flat end (Think of your hair when you get it cut). With waxing, the pain is gone in a few seconds, and by the time they grow back, they’re already tapered.

  • Madam Nixie

This really helped a lot. I have been considering getting a waxed down there because I HATE shaving, but I also don’t like the hair. I’ve just been super chicken because I was told it hurts a looooot.

  • Sophie

Seriously girls, if you’re thinking of going hairless down there, then PLEASE DON’T SHAVE. I used to shave quite often down there and the hair became so thick and frequent. I’ve only recently started waxing and believe me IT’S SO MUCH BETTER and the pain is worth it! It doesn’t hurt much, a pinch hurts more.

  • sarahlw984

Yes i think it is worth it but honestly, it really hurts i try so hard not to cry but I dont want to shave either so…

  • Samantha

I just have a question for anyone really. Do guys like it better when you shave/wax down there? And does waxing really feel worth it? I know the author thinks so, but does anyone else have an opinion they’d be willing to tell?

    • kashew

I have waxed my lady parts myself a few times, but not with hot wax, I used the “sugar” wax and as long as I pulled the strip off right, it barely hurt. And this is coming from someone with a slightly below average pain tolerance. Again, I did it myself so I don’t know what it would be like going to a salon and getting it done but I think it’s worth it! Also, it depends on the guy, some like hairy, some like it bald, others (like my boyfriend, thankfully) aren’t really that picky. Just do whatever is most comfortable for you! I personally don’t mind having hair down there most of the time, but during my period being hairless is a must. Hope this helped! And once again, DO WHAT YOU LIKE down there! If you are confident, it will show. And a guy who says no to sex because you have some hair, or no hair, down there isn’t someone you really want to have sex with anyways. xoxo 🙂

      • Ashley Boo

Yeah I see that you use sugar wax, is that a home thing you can do? Can you tell me hoe to make/do it? Thanks!
