Okay, let me be clear: I think that we should acknowledge jerks for the jerks they are. Sure, some redeem themselves and some never get around to it because they’re too busy being awful for no reason. But I don’t think that we should let them off the hook too easily. Yeah, sometimes they’re really hot or have some sort of quirk that we love, but jerks are jerks and we shouldn’t excuse their behavior!
But when it comes to movies, let’s be real, we sometimes can’t help but have some love for some real jerks. Deep, deep down…or not so deep down. Maybe it’s looks, maybe we see a bit of our jerky halves in their jerky halves, or maybe we just have a soft spot for people who are the worst. Either way, you probably have some characters in mind already. Here are 10 of our favorite teen movie jerks that we love to hate and hate to love.
Draco From The Harry Potter SeriesOh, Draco. Let's not get it twisted: Draco is a prejudiced jerk who found himself in a crappy situation. Other than, you know, being used as Voldemort's pawn, Draco was an awful person just because he could. Still, at the end of the day, he was a fun character to hate. Source: Harry Potter/Warner Bros.
Bender From The Breakfast ClubIf anyone on this list fits the bad-boy-from-a-broken-home trope, it's Bender. His redemption arc is sort of half-assed if you ask me, but it's easy to have a soft spot for him. That bit at the end of the movie where he does that little fist pump automatically sends me into tears and makes me want to sing '80s montage songs for the rest of the day, so he must be doing something right. JD From HeathersViolent sociopaths get an automatic jerk seal of approval if you ask me. But people still find him lovable! Source: Heathers/New World Pictures
Lucas Lee From Scott Pilgrim Vs. The WorldEntitled piece of you know what? Sure. But I would love for him to walk around narrating my life in his gravely voice because I want my every move to be ten times more intense. Source: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World/Universal Pictures
Joey From 10 Things I Hate About YouThere's nothing better than a self-centered dude who can really make their vanity pure art. Joey managed it and remained incredibly unlikable throughout 10 Things, but he was such a joke that it's hard to hate him 100%. Maybe just 97.5%. Source: 10 Things I Hate About You/Buena Vista
Kenickie From GreaseSure, Danny Zuko was a jerk too, but not quite like Kenickie. Danny wore his heart on his sleeve a lil' more while Kenickie was always acting like he was above it all. But at least he was well suited with Rizzo who, while lovable, wasn't much of a peach herself. Source: Grease/Paramount
Val From BrinkThis dude spent the entire duration of this Disney movie egging on his competition and was an overall terrible dude. But his hair looked very touchable, so there's that. Source: Brink/Disney
Zack From She's All ThatSure, he wasn't the ultimate jerk of this movie and he eventually redeemed himself, but he still decided to go our with a girl for a bet. That calls for an automatic nope in my book. She's All That/Miramax Films
Eric From 21 Jump Street21 Jump Street is one of the funniest movies that has come out in the last couple of years and a fair amount of that is due to Dave Franco's character, Eric. But wow, he sure was a pompous jerk who managed to act holier than thou and too cool for school all at the same time. At least the hilariousness of his character sort of made up for it, ja feel? Source: 21 Jump Street
Steff From Pretty In PinkMy favorite '80s dbag. He is such an awful friend and human being and it is almost fascinating to watch his attempts at manipulating and degrading anybody and everybody. He's the worst...but I'd definitely make out with him and never speak to him again. Source: Pretty In Pink
