Look, I don’t know about you but I’m so sick of having my body type classified. If we aren’t having our bodies compared to fruits, we’re having them compared to geometric shapes and other things we don’t actually look like. But I’m even more sick of having style websites, magazines and TV shows tell me what clothes I should and shouldn’t wear based on my body type.
Do you know what clothes I want to wear? Clothes that I think are fun, cool, unique and make me feel like a badass. Not clothes based on some arbitrary standard of what looks flattering on my body. Because you know what? Maybe I don’t think boot-cut jeans look good on me. Maybe I want to wear skinny jeans even though I have some hips on me. We can decide what looks flattering or not, can’t we?
Here are 8 things that you should wear if you want to, regardless of your body type!
Crop Tops Without A Six PackI always hear people say that they'd wear a crop top if they had the stomach for it. If you have a stomach, you can wear a crop top. If everybody who owned crop tops had washboard abs, the fashion industry would go out of business. If you like crop tops, wear them even if you don't have a Photoshopped stomach. Wear them with a high waist bottom if you're still a little self conscious and get ready for some compliments! Source: Nadiaaboulhon.com
Skinny JeansSkinny jeans aren't just meant for skinny people. So what if you don't have thigh gap? So what if your thighs have some heft on them? If you like the way skinny jeans look then you should rock them no matter what. Source: Wenn Photos
Maxi Dresses For ShortiesMaxi dresses aren't just for tall girls. I'm tall and I usually avoid maxi dresses like the plague while fellow Gurl writer, Jessica, wears them all the time despite being short. Instead of listening to people telling you that you can't pull them off due to your height, find a maxi dress that is calling your name and prove all the naysayers wrong! Source: Youtube
Big Shoes For People With Big FeetI wear a size 11 shoe. Yeah, my feet are pretty massive. Does that mean that I shouldn't wear kickass, chunky boots? Hell no. Pictured are one of my favorite pairs of docs and I love them to death. Big feet aren't going to stop me from wearing combat boots. Source: Offbeatorbit
Vertical Stripes For Skinny ChicksGirls who are thin are sometimes told that they should avoid vertical stripes or else it will make them look thinner. This doesn't take into consideration the fact that vertical stripes are amazing and skinny girls shouldn't be left out of their awesomeness. Source: Mermaidens
Bodysuits For Plus Size BodiesYou don't have to be a size 0 to rock a body suit. Sure, they leave little to the imagination and I know that this is easier said than done, but there are plenty of ways to rock a body suit and feel confident in one even if you've got some lumps and rolls showin' through. Chances are you're the only one who is focusing on that little roll of fat. Wear it under your favorite pair of jeans and rock it, girl. Source: Theglitterthread.com
Tall Women Wearing HeelsSome people have the nerve to tell a tall girls that they shouldn't wear heels because they'll be taller than a guy. Whoops, what a shame. Too bad that I don't care and neither should any other tall girl! If you've got that height, why not show it off? Any guy who is intimidated by that isn't worth your time. Source: Shutterstock
Large Prints For Larger LadiesI swear, it's as if people just want larger chicks to wear nothing but black and flared jeans. I love prints and the fact that they aren't slimming shouldn't stop me or anybody else from wearing them! Source: Wenn Photos
