Despite being completely amazing, Casper was actually a box-office disappointment when it was released, which is why there was never a live-action sequel. There was supposed to be, but because of that reason and also because Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman were attached to other projects, there wasn’t. Ah, well, I guess it’s better that way.
The three annoying ghosts in the movie were actually supposed to have a big musical scene that ended up getting cut because of cost, which was a few million dollars. A song called “Lucky Enough To Be A Ghost” was written and filmed, where the ghosts sang about their mental problems. Kind of sad we missed that!
Remember that scene where Casper pulled Christina Ricci’s character out the window and to the lighthouse? In order to make it look like she was being pulled by an actual ghost, there was a string of fishing line tied to her wrist.
This is actually the second movie where Christina Ricci and Devon Sawa played lovers (ugh, hate that word). The other is one of the other best ’90s movies of all time – Now and Then. Sigh.
