There are some guys in the world who love celebrating Halloween and are totally down for couples costumes once they enter a relationship. Unfortunately (or fortunately, I can’t decide), my boyfriend is not one of those people. He didn’t dress up at all for the last two Halloween’s we spent together, despite the fact that it’s my birthday. Okay, fine, I didn’t really ask him to. But this year, I’m starting to think it might be fun to do a couples costume and I’m on my way to convincing him.
If you’re in the same boat as I am, this article is for you. If you want your boyfriend to do a super cute couples costume, it might take some serious persuading – but, hey, it might work out in your favor. Couples costumes are fun, adorable and usually a pretty big hit at any party. Get ready to do some convincing!
Ask Nicely At The Right TimeFind an appropriate time to ask your boyfriend - like when you're both hanging out and in a good mood. Don't spring it on him at the last minute or ask when he's in a bad mood or anything like that. And ask nicely - don't demand, just say simply, "Would you like to do a couples costume for Halloween this year? I think it would be really cool." Source: ShutterStock
Think Of Something You Know He Would LikeWhen you ask him at first, have a plan. Pick an idea that you think he'll be into and suggest that. If there's something from one of his favorite movies, TV shows or comic books that he really likes, he may be more likely to say yes to that than something random. But make sure it's something you want to do too... don't just pick something to please him because then it's not fun for you! Source: ShutterStock
Talk About Possible Ideas TogetherIf you can't think of something he might like or he doesn't like your original idea, brainstorm together. Don't make it seem like this is something only you want to do - make it seem like this is something fun for both of you to do together. By coming up with the costume together, you're showing that you care about what he wants too. Source: ShutterStock
Give Him Time To ThinkIf he says no or he's not sure, ask him to please think about it and then give him some time. Demanding an answer immediately is annoying and will most likely make him say no. Source: ShutterStock
Make It A Big Group CostumeIf he's not into just doing a couples costume, another fun idea would be doing a big group costume with all of your friends. If a bunch of people are doing it, he may be more into the idea. Source: ShutterStock
Get His Friends To Try To Talk Him Into ItIf he seems on the fence about the couples costume, talk to him about it in front of his buddies. Maybe one of them will encourage him to do it too. Source: ShutterStock
Don't Give Him UltimatumsNo one likes an ultimatum, especially about something as silly as this. Don't tell him he has to or you're going to get angry. No one likes to be cornered into something. Source: ShutterStock
If He's Not Into It, Accept ItDon't get mad at him if he says no. I know it's frustrating, but if he doesn't want to do it, you can't force it. And why would you even want to? If it's something he's not into, it just won't be fun. Source: ShutterStock
