I couldn’t French braid until I was in college, but I used to put my hair in bear ears all by myself when I was a kid. Go figure. Some girls in the office were confused as to what bear ears were but knew exactly what I was talking about when I said pigtail buns. You know what I mean, right? Those buns that make you look like a cute little bear.
I haven’t done this hairdo in forever because, well, I’m an adult and it didn’t seem appropriate. However, I’ve spotted this lately around the city and since ‘90s fashion trends are coming back, these puppies are too. You heard it here first, y’all.
I thought this was a good time to show you how to do bear ears because they’re actually a perfect style for Halloween. You can be a regular bear, a Care Bear, a panda bear, Pooh Bear, a mouse (duh). Really, you can be almost anything with ears on top of its head.

You Need: Hair Ties
You can do this with four hair ties or two hair ties and some bobby pins. The choice is yours.
You need: Bobby Pins
Probably good to have on hand either way.
Part Your Hair
Part your hair down the middle like so, even if you feel silly because you always do a side part. You want your ears to be symmetrically place.
Put Your Hair In High Pigtails
Not too high and not too low. For these, I placed them a few inches above my real ears. You can alternatively do low bear ears for a different look.
Twist Your Pigtails
I twisted them away from my ears, but you can go either way. Twist tightly.
Wrap And Tie Or Pin
Wrap your twisted pigtail around itself to form a bun. You can secure it with another hair tie or bobby pins. I like using bobby pins because it tends to hold better. Or you can use both!
I'm A Bear, Duh
You can turn yourself into basically any animal with ears!
You Can Be A Nice Bear
Be a cute panda or a baby bear.
Or You Can Be A Mean Bear
Practice your most ferocious growl!
