Sometimes I get why only children like being the only child. Being a sibling can be very stressful, especially if you’re not the favorite. I hate to admit this, but parents have favorites. (Seriously, though, your parents love you.) We talked about this in the office and Ashley thought this was very sad. Jess and I on the other hand just accept that it’s a fact. We have brown hair, our parents have their favorites. No big deal.
But how do you know if you’re the better sibling? I was not the favorite for a long time. I was always getting in trouble and my parents favored my brother a lot. I think I’m the favorite now. Or maybe we’re more equal? (JK I’m totes the favorite.)
You never get in trouble, even if you did something wrong.
At dinner, you’re the center of the conversation.
You get to stay up late and never have a curfew while your siblings do.
Your extracurricular activities take precedence.
There may or may not be a shrine of you in your house.
Your parents complain about their other siblings to you.
Your parents hold you to higher standards because they know you’re the best.
You get the easy chores.
Your parents ask you for your opinion on family matters, like where to go on vacation.
You get what you ask for around the holidays.
(PS Mom & Dad, I’m still mad that you got Gordon a Gameboy Color when I was 8 even though I asked for it, and he did not.)
Are you the better sibling? Do your siblings know? Tell us in the comments!
