Warner Bros. Entertainment approached Rowling about the movie, and she was all Accio screenplay! She said, “I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of Fantastic Beasts, realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood.”
Um, I agree with Rowls (we’re close) because I would die if anyone else drummed up a story in the world she created. This new movie is not a prequel OR a sequel. Instead, Rowling calls it an “extension of the wizarding world”. So what’s going to happen in this extension?
This is all very new as of this morning, so we don’t know that much. According to Rowling, the movie will take place in New York seventy years before Harry’s story. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’re going to fit right in, “The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films.”
Perhaps we’ll get some insight into some of our favorite characters though?
Maybe some more snapshots of Dumbledore’s life? Or a back story on Professor McGonagall? Will we meet Buckbeak as a little baby Hippogriff? Did Newt find fantastic beasts and bring them to Hogwarts? Did he become some black market fantastic beast dealer? WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN?
There are so many possibilities for this, I can’t even stand it!
What do you want to see in this movie? Are you excited or do you think J.K. Rowling should let the wizarding world be? Tell us in the comments!
